Vehicle system that includes external airbag impellers with its mounting structure that, in addition to preventing damage to the outside and the bottom of the vehicle, also allows its buoyancy
The present invention relates to a system that is mounted on a mounting structure or chassis intended to protect the vehicles and their occupants. The system uses a main computer, high-precision radars, external airbag impellers, airbags that protect the vehicle and to some extent help its buoyancy, fluid sensors to detect the water limit that the vehicle can reach, and if these sensors are activated send a signal to the main computer that is responsible for activating air bag impellers, an inclinometer to detect the limit of inclination established in the vehicle and if the inclinometer detects an inclination that exceeds the limit established, this sends a signal to the main computer that is responsible for activating all the air bag impeller devices; and a monitor with signal transmitters to visualize in the state in which the system is located.
Enhanced discrimination method and apparatus for controlling an actuatable protection device
A vehicle safety system includes an actuatable restraint for helping to protect a vehicle occupant and a controller for controlling actuation of the actuatable restraint in response to a vehicle rollover event. The controller is configured to execute a discrimination algorithm comprising at least one classification metric that utilizes at least one of vehicle pitch rate (P_RATE) and vehicle roll acceleration (D_RATE) to discriminate at least one of a ramp rollover event and a soil rollover event from an embankment rollover event. The discrimination algorithm determines a classification of the vehicle rollover event as one of a ramp rollover event, a soil rollover event, and an embankment rollover event. The controller is also configured to select a deployment threshold for deploying the actuatable restraint. The deployment threshold corresponds to the classification of the vehicle rollover event.
Low-impact collision detection
In general, techniques are described by which a computing system detects low-impact collisions. A computing system includes at least one processor and memory. The memory includes instructions that, when executed, cause the at least one processor to determine whether an object collided with a vehicle based on a comparison of data received from at least one motion sensor configured to measure at least an acceleration of the vehicle and data received from a plurality of level sensors, wherein each level sensor is configured to measure a relative position between a body of the vehicle and a respective wheel of a plurality of wheels of the vehicle. Execution of the instructions further causes the at least one processor to perform one or more actions in response to determining that the object collided with the vehicle.
Method and apparatus for controlling an actuatable protection device with enhanced rollover discrimination
A method for controlling the actuation of an actuatable restraint to help protect a vehicle occupant in response to a rollover event is implemented in a controller of a vehicle safety system that includes the actuatable restraint. To implement the method, the controller is configured to execute a roll discrimination metric that discriminates the occurrence of a ramp rollover event or an embankment rollover event in response to a vehicle roll rate (R_RATE) having a magnitude that exceeds a predetermined threshold roll rate (R_RATE). The controller is also configured to execute a switching metric that is operative to reduce the predetermined threshold roll rate (R_RATE) in response to a vehicle pitch rate (P_RATE) having a magnitude that exceeds a predetermined threshold pitch rate (P_RATE).
VEHICLE AND METHOD FOR LIMITING VEHICLE ROLL
A vehicle comprising a safety device comprising a supporting member having a first end provided with a joint part which is pivotally mounted on a side wall of the vehicle, and a second end configured to bear on the ground. The vehicle further comprises an actuator connected to the supporting member and configured to move it relative to the vehicle between an inactive position in which the supporting member is located along the vehicle side wall, with the second end at a distance from the ground, and a safety position in which the supporting member extends between the vehicle side wall and the ground, to limit vehicle roll by means of the second end bearing on the ground.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING AN ACTUATABLE PROTECTION DEVICE WITH OFF-ROAD AND ROLLOVER DETECTION
A method for controlling actuation of an actuatable restraint in response to a vehicle rollover event includes detecting whether the vehicle (12) is being driven off-road. The method also includes determining whether the vehicle (12) is undergoing a roll event (99) that would warrant actuation of the actuatable restraint (20) if the vehicle was being driven on-road. The method further includes actuating the actuatable restraint (20) in response to determining that a roll acceleration (D RATE) of the vehicle (20) indicates that the roll event is continuing. A vehicle safety system (10) includes an actuatable restraint and a controller (50) configured to control actuation of the actuatable restraint according to this method.
VEHICLE TURN-OVER DETERMINATION APPARATUS AND VEHICLE
A vehicle turn-over determination apparatus includes a turn-over sensor, a memory, a determination processor, and a road-surface detector. The turn-over sensor detects a value of a turn-over angle or a turn-over velocity of a vehicle. The determination processor performs the determination of the turn-over of the vehicle on the basis of the value detected by the turn-over sensor and the determination-threshold information held in the memory. The road-surface detector detects a road surface that is present in a traveling direction of the vehicle. The determination processor varies the determination-threshold information acquired from the memory in accordance with an inclination of the road surface detected by the road-surface detector, and thereby generates adjusted-threshold information adjusted in accordance with the inclination of the road surface. The determination processor compares the adjusted-threshold information and the detected value with each other, and thereby perform the determination of the turn-over of the vehicle.
Dynamic Safety System
A rollover detection system is provided that comprises a device, a sensor and/or a group of sensors and a warning system for use in a vehicle to reduce or prevent the likelihood of a rollover during operation of the vehicle. The rollover detection system can provide a driver of a vehicle, information that informs the driver of the risk and imminence of a rollover and allows the driver to take corrective action to reduce the risk or imminence of a rollover. The rollover detection system can also allow for the review of information collected by a device by a driver or other individual during and after a risk of a rollover is detected.
