A vehicle idling stop control device has switches that detect an operation of opening a driver's door and an unbuckling of a driver's seat belt as disembarkation operations by a driver. When a disembarkation operation performed by the driver is detected during an idling stop, the idling stop is cancelled and the engine is restarted upon detecting a disembarkation operation performed by a driver during the idling stop. Also, restarting of the idling stop is prevented due to ending of the disembarkation operation performed by the driver until after the vehicle starts traveling. Thus, unnecessary automatic stopping and automatic restarting of the engine are thereby avoided when the vehicle sets off without the driver actually exiting the vehicle.

Disclosed are a hybrid electric vehicle capable of controlling starting of an engine in order to more efficiently realize heating and an engine control method therefor. The method of controlling an engine of a hybrid electric vehicle of the disclosure includes determining whether the engine is in a warmed-up state when a fully automatic temperature control system makes a heating request, making an engine startup request for heating to an engine management system configured to control the engine when the engine is in the warmed-up state, and selectively requesting the engine management system to perform cylinder deactivation (CDA) control on at least some of a plurality of cylinders of the engine depending on whether the engine is in an idling state.

A control device for performing start assist control for an internal combustion engine includes: a first start assist processing unit that executes a first start assist process that brings a first engagement device into slip engagement at a first engagement pressure while increasing a torque generated by a rotating electrical machine; and a second start assist processing unit that increases, when the first start assist process fails to start the internal combustion engine, an engagement pressure of the first engagement device to a second engagement pressure higher than the first engagement pressure while increasing the torque generated by the rotating electrical machine. The second start assist processing unit determines the second engagement pressure on the basis of a rotational speed of the internal combustion engine in the first start assist process.

In particular, the plurality of mode operating regions includes: an electric vehicle (EV) only mode operating region, a GDF mode operating region where the GDF combustion engine operates and drives the HEV while the motor-generator stops, and a GDF+EV mode operating region where the motor-generator assists the operation of the GDF combustion engine to drive the HEV.

A system and method for controlling a hybrid vehicle having an engine, a traction motor, and an automatic step-ratio transmission having a plurality of selectable discrete gear ratios, a torque converter, and sharing a common cooling fluid or oil with the traction motor, include a controller configured to shift the automatic step-ratio transmission to neutral in response to vehicle speed being below a threshold with the engine idling while temperatures of at least two of: the traction battery, the electric machine, and the transmission are above associated thresholds to reduce heat generation by the torque converter due to oil shear with the torque converter stalled. The controller may shift the transmission to drive in response to release of a brake pedal. A neutral shift may also be performed in response to high-voltage accessory loads or on-board generator loads exceeding a threshold.
