The invention relates to a method for propelling a vehicle comprising a first power source being an internal combustion engine and a second power source comprising at least one electrical machine. The vehicle is configured to be selectively driven according to a first mode and a second mode, wherein said second mode is prioritized more in relation to fuel efficiency of said vehicle than said first mode. When a maximum power for propelling said vehicle is requested, power delivered by said first power source and said second power source is controlled such that the total power delivered by said first and said second power source exceeds the maximum deliverable power of said first power source. The total power delivered by said first and said second power source is allowed to exceed the maximum deliverable power of said first power source when said vehicle is driven according to said second mode.

Electric powered vehicle and control method for electric powered vehicle

An ECU switches a control mode to an HV mode when an SOC decreases to a lower limit during an EV mode. The ECU calculates an evaluation value ΣD of high-rate deterioration indicating a deterioration component of a secondary battery due to non-uniformity in salt concentration in a battery. The ECU executes high-rate deterioration inhibiting control when the HV mode is currently selected and when the battery is evaluated as deteriorating based on the evaluation value ΣD, the high-rate deterioration inhibiting control being control for increasing the SOC by making a control target of the SOC higher than the lower limit of the SOC. On the other hand, the ECU does not execute the high-rate deterioration inhibiting control when the EV mode is currently selected.

PLUG-IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITH DERATED TRACTION CONTROL UPON SYSTEM FAULTS

A method for controlling the distribution of power to a traction motor in a plug-in electric vehicle having a plurality of on-board sources of electric power. Power is distributed at a normal power control relationship in response to an operator control input during operation in a normal mode. Power is depleted at a first rate during operation of the vehicle in the normal mode. Power is distributed at a derate power control relationship in response to the operator control input during operation in a derate mode. Power is depleted at a second rate that is less than the first rate during operation in the derate mode to conserve the power of the one or more on-board sources. Operation in the derate mode can be initiated in response to information from sensors identifying a vehicle condition indicating a battery charge limitation.
