The insurance rate to charge may be based on driving behaviors detected while operating the vehicle.

Vehicle ignition control

A method of encouraging safe driving of a vehicle using a remote starter device installed at a vehicle is provided. The remote starter device determines whether it is in signal communication with a remote starter application operating at a mobile computing device separate from the remote starter device. When the remote starter device is in signal communication with the remote starter application, the remote starter device permits ignition of the vehicle. When the remote starter device is not in signal communication with the remote starter application, the remote starter device prevents ignition of the vehicle. The remote starter application may present to a driver of the vehicle an insurance rate for taking a trip in the vehicle.

An electronic device is provided that has a transceiver and the electronic device is manipulated to place phone calls and for texting. The electronic device is positionable within the lock box and the lock box is placed in electrical communication with the electronic device when the electronic device is positioned within the lock box. The ignition system is inhibited from being turned on when the transceiver in the vehicle senses the transceiver in the electronic device and the electronic device is not positioned within the box. In this way the electronic device is inhibited from being manipulated for texting while driving.
