Flex coupling assembly with restrictive bending feature

A flex coupling assembly for coupling a first shaft to a second shaft of a shaft assembly. The flex coupling assembly includes a lower housing having a housing wall bounding a cavity between a first end having an end face and an open second end. A first shaft is fixed to the end face and extends along an axis. An upper flange, spaced from the lower housing, has a second shaft fixed thereto extending along the axis. A retention member, disposed in the cavity, is operably fixed to the upper flange. A resilient flex coupling, disposed between the end face and the flange, is operably fixed to the upper flange and the retention member and to the lower housing. The lower housing and the flange are moveable axially toward and away from one another and rotatably about the axis via flexing of the resilient flex coupling which dampens noise and vibrations between the first and second shafts.

Serviceable power pack belt drive

A power steering system includes a rack housing arranged to receive a longitudinally displaceable rack member. The system also includes an assist cover connected to the rack housing, the rack housing and the assist cover defining a cavity. The system further includes an assist assembly at least partially disposed within the cavity. The assist assembly includes a power pack connected to at least one of the rack housing and the assist cover, the power pack having a power pack shaft extending therefrom. The assist assembly also includes a drive pulley having a drive pulley shaft that extends between the rack housing and the assist cover, the drive pulley shaft and the power pack shaft separate shafts and operatively coupled to each other. The assist assembly further includes a driven pulley disposed about the rack member.

The present invention is a steering system for a beam-type solid axle arrangement. The steering system is designed to operate in conjunction with the triangulated link-style suspension system with zero bumpsteer during suspension travel and negligible bumpsteer during articulation. Accurate steering throughout suspension operations is satisfied with mechanical linkages that include a slow ratio rack and pinion gearset and unique augmented chain and sprocket assembly. The slow ratio of the rack and pinion gearset ensures negligible bumpsteer during articulation, thereby leading to negligible if any bumpsteer throughout operation of the suspension system. Meanwhile, augmentation of the chain and sprocket assembly defines a steering quickener effect thereby speeding up the rack and pinion gearset and restoring quick steering response. Effortless steering is ensured by appropriate use of electric or hydraulic assist devices.

The present invention is an improved version of the steering system described in U.S. patent application Ser. No. 17/115,573. The prior steering system features effortless steering input from the driver and negligible bumpsteer during suspension operation. Such extraordinary steering performance is realized with the use of costly and complex electric assist devices and control devices. The present steering system includes an alternative electric assist device which allows for the removal of the costly and complex electric assist devices in the prior steering system. The present steering system also includes a novel hydraulic control valve with a solenoid valve-plunger mechanism. The mechanism prevents premature wear or destruction of the rack and pinion gearset. The use of the alternative electric assist device and hydraulic control valve enables the present steering system to preserve the extraordinary steering performance featured in the prior steering system concurrent with a reduction in cost and complexity.
