METHOD AND DEVICE FOR OPERATING A VEHICLE

A vehicle is operable in a first operating mode in which the vehicle travels autonomously inside the traffic lane based on a detection of lane markings of a traffic lane and in a second operating mode in which the vehicle autonomously follows a vehicle driving in front while ignoring lane markings, and a method of its operation includes operating the vehicle in a first of the two operating modes, detecting a vehicle environment, and switching from the first operating mode to the other of the two operating modes as a function of the detected vehicle environment. A device can execute the method and a computer program can be executed by a device for performing the method.

System and method for trajectory estimation

A system for estimating a trajectory of a vehicle includes vehicle state sensors detecting a state of movement of the vehicle and environment sensors monitoring an environment of the vehicle. A free space module determines a free space corridor based on the detected state of movement of the vehicle and the monitored environment of the vehicle. A goal point determination module determines at least one goal point for the trajectory to be estimated based on the free space corridor. A trajectory planning module estimates a reference trajectory based on the at least one goal point and calculates a deviation between an actual trajectory and the reference trajectory of the vehicle. A trajectory control module minimizes the deviation between the actual trajectory and the reference trajectory of the vehicle and outputs optimal control parameters for the movement of the vehicle based on the minimized deviation.

ASSISTED VEHICLE OPERATION WITH IMPROVED OBJECT DETECTION

A vehicle control system includes a camera configured to capture image data depicting a field of view proximate the vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle control system further includes a plurality of light sources in connection with the vehicle and a controller. The controller is configured to activate a plurality of lights in an alternating pattern and capture light reflected from at least one object with the camera at a time and corresponding to the alternating pattern of the plurality of lights. In response to variations in the light impinging upon the at least one object from the alternating pattern, the controller is configured to identify a distance of the object.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to: perform a follow-up steering control for changing a steering angle of a vehicle in such a manner that the vehicle travels along a target traveling line determined based on a preceding vehicle trajectory, which is a travel trajectory of a preceding vehicle traveling ahead of the vehicle; and when a first distance condition and a manual steering condition are both satisfied while the follow-up steering control is being performed, stop the follow-up steering control, the first distance condition being a condition satisfied when a deviation distance in a road-width direction between the preceding vehicle trajectory and the vehicle is equal to or longer than a predetermined first threshold, and the manual steering condition being a condition satisfied when a driver operates a steering wheel to change a position in the road-width direction.

Trailer detection and autonomous hitching

A method for autonomously maneuvering a tow vehicle towards a trailer positioned behind the tow vehicle is provided. The method includes receiving one or more images from one or more cameras positioned on a back portion of the tow vehicle. The method also includes identifying a trailer representation within the one or more images. The trailer representation being indicative of the trailer positioned behind the tow vehicle. The method also includes setting a vertical center of the trailer representation as a target. The method also includes determining a first steering wheel angle to turn the tow vehicle such that the vehicle autonomously maneuvers in a direction towards the target. The method also includes transmitting instructions to a drive system causing the tow vehicle to maneuver based on the first steering wheel angle.

Method for establishing a path for a vehicle

A method for a follower vehicle following a lead vehicle, comprising establishing, in a first control mode of the follower vehicle, a path for the follower vehicle to follow the lead vehicle, characterized by generating environmental data which is related to the environment of the lead vehicle, determining, based on the generated environmental data, an expected behaviour of an operational parameter of the lead vehicle, determining an actual behaviour of the lead vehicle operational parameter, comparing the determined expected behaviour of the lead vehicle operational parameter and the determined actual behaviour of the lead vehicle operational parameter, determining based on said comparison whether to continue in first control mode of the follower vehicle, or in a second control mode of the follower vehicle, differing from the first control mode.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IMPLEMENTING PRECOGNITION BRAKING AND/OR AVOIDING OR MITIGATION RISKS AMONG PLATOONING VEHICLES

A system and method for mitigating or avoiding risks due to hazards encountered by platooning vehicles. The system and method involve interrogating, with one or more sensors, a space radially extending from a lead vehicle as the lead vehicle travels over the road surface, perceiving the environment within the space, ascertaining a hazard caused by an object in the space, and causing a following vehicle, operating in a platoon with the lead vehicle, to take a preemptive braking action to avoid or mitigate risks resulting from the hazard caused by the object in the space.

Techniques for using ball joint sensor data to determine conditions relevant to a vehicle are described in this disclosure. For example, in one example, the ball joint sensor data may be used to determine estimated steering data. The estimated steering data may be directly used to navigate through an environment, such as by the vehicle relying on the estimated steering data when planning, tracking, or executing a driving maneuver. Also, the estimated steering data may be used to verify the reliability of other steering sensor data used to navigate through the environment.
