The invention relates to an arrangement for multi screw vessels, in particular twin screw vessels, with external propeller shafts, as well as to a method for producing such an arrangement. The arrangement according to the invention is in particular suitable for a drive system of an above-mentioned multi screw vessel and to improve the energy efficiency thereof.

In an example, a compliant shaft enclosure support system for coupling to a shaft enclosure surrounding a shaft includes a bar having a first member slidably coupled to a second member. The bar is oriented along the pitch axis of the shaft. A first bar end of the bar is rotatably connected, around the roll axis and pitch axis of the shaft, to the shaft enclosure at a first connection. A second bar end of the bar is rotatably connected, around the roll axis and pitch axis, to the structure at a second connection. A link is rotatably connected, around the roll axis, at a first link end to the bar, at an intermediate location spaced from the first and second bar ends. The link is rotatably connected, around the pitch axis, at a second link end to the shaft enclosure at a third connection spaced from the first connection.

The system comprises a strut (5) for supporting a propeller shaft (4) of the vessel, the strut (5) comprising a fluid inlet (8), a fluid outlet (9), and a channel (10) inside the strut (5) for transporting fluid between the fluid inlet and fluid outlet, one or more fluid conduits coupling the fluid inlet and outlet to a component to be cooled, and a pump for circulating a fluid through the conduits and said channel.

The system comprises a strut (5) for supporting a propeller shaft (4) of the vessel, the strut (5) comprising a fluid inlet (8), a fluid outlet (9), and a channel (10) inside the strut (5) for transporting fluid between the fluid inlet and fluid outlet, one or more fluid conduits coupling the fluid inlet and outlet to a component to be cooled, and a pump for circulating a fluid through the conduits and said channel.
Marine propulsion system supported by a strut
A marine propulsion system, supported by a strut, comprising an inner propeller shaft supporting a first propeller adjacent a trailing end thereof, and the inner propeller shaft is connected to the drive shaft for receiving and supplying a first portion of torque to the first propeller as well as transfer thrust, generated by the first propeller, along the inner propeller shaft back to the drive shaft. An outer propeller shaft supports a second propeller adjacent a trailing and thereof, and the outer propeller shaft surrounds the inner propeller shaft. A differential gear set receives a second portion of the torque and supplies the second portion to the outer propeller shaft so that the second propeller rotates in an opposite rotational direction to the first propeller. The thrust, generated by the first and the second propellers, is conveyed along either the inner or the outer propeller shafts, to the drive shaft.
Marine propulsion system supported by a strut
A marine propulsion system, supported by a strut, comprising an inner propeller shaft supporting a first propeller adjacent a trailing end thereof, and the inner propeller shaft is connected to the drive shaft for receiving and supplying a first portion of torque to the first propeller as well as transfer thrust, generated by the first propeller, along the inner propeller shaft back to the drive shaft. A marine vessel has a hull with a bottom, a bow, a stern, and a propulsion arrangement including at least three propulsion units arranged at the stern of the marine vessel. The marine vessel has a base line and a centerline. The at least three propulsion units include a fixed centerline shaft propulsion unit with a shaft line and a propeller, and two turnable propulsion units with respective propellers and arranged at opposite sides of the fixed centerline shaft propulsion unit for steering of the marine vessel. For improving thrust efficiency, while maintaining optimal steering capability, the propeller of the fixed centerline shaft propulsion unit is arranged at a given distance aft of the stern of the marine vessel.
