MULTICOPTER
A multicopter includes: a support; rotors supported by the support; an electrical equipment that supplies power for rotationally driving the rotors; a circuitly that controls a flight of an airframe by individually adjusting a rotor speed of each of the rotors; and a cooling unit that cools the electrical equipment. The cooling unit includes a heat exchanger, a refrigerant circulating through the heat exchanger and the electrical equipment, and a pump that circulates the refrigerant.
PROPELLER DEICING SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Techniques for deicing propellers for mobile platforms are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system is provided. The system may include a propeller comprising a propeller blade having a channel extending from an ingress aperture to an egress aperture along a longitudinal axis of the propeller blade. The system may further include a cowl comprising an air duct configured to direct heated air into the channel to deice the propeller blade. The cowl may be configured to selectively couple to the propeller and an electric motor and form a seal between the cowl and the electric motor to capture the heated air exuded by the electric motor. Additional systems and methods are also disclosed.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COOLING ELECTRONICS IN AN UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE
The present disclosure provides an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) having a housing containing electronic components required of the UAV and a heat transfer device for cooling heat generated by said electronic components; at least one boom for connecting said housing to at least one propeller. The boom includes one or more inlet located on a first surface of the boom and within an airflow of said at least one propeller; at least one outlet on a second surface of the boom; a hallow channel extending in interior of the boom from said at least one inlet to said at least one outlet, wherein said airflow generated by said at least one propeller passes into said at least one inlet through the hollow channel to said at least one outlet providing cooling for said heat transfer device.
LIGHTWEIGHT STABILIZED GIMBAL CAMERA PAYLOAD FOR SMALL AERIAL VEHICLES
A gimbal configured to be implemented in an unmanned aerial system. The gimbal includes a payload interface; an end effector; a structure that includes composite skins, an internal structure, and integrated seals; integrated drive components; and at least one computer, where excess heat generated by the at least one computer is disposed of through a heat transfer surface integrated into the composite skin of the gimbal.
ACTIVE THERMAL CONTROL OF UAV ENERGY STORAGE UNITS
Systems, devices, and techniques for active thermal control of energy storage units are described. In some embodiments, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes a battery pack. The battery pack includes a plurality of battery cells and an enclosure coupled with the plurality of battery cells to physically retain the plurality of battery cells in an arrangement. The arrangement defines a void space between the plurality of battery cells. The UAV also includes a cooling system configured to cool the battery cells. The cooling system includes a source of forced convection fluidically coupled with the battery pack to drive a cooling fluid through the void space. The cooling system also includes a cooling controller electrically coupled with the source of forced convection to controllably activate the source of forced convection.
AIR SCOOP SOLAR SHIELD FOR UAV
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes a fuselage, electronics disposed with the fuselage, a heat sink, and a solar shield. The heat sink is thermally connected to the electronics and includes a cooling plate disposed on or extends through an exterior surface of the fuselage. The cooling plate is exposed to an external environment of the UAV to conduct heat from the electronics to the external environment via convection. The solar shield extends over the cooling plate and defines an air scoop within which the cooling plate is disposed. The air scoop directs airflow from the external environment across the cooling plate. The solar shield shades the cooling plate from solar radiation to prevent or reduce solar heating of the cooling plate.
Aircraft-retrieval system
The present disclosure provides various embodiments of an aircraft retrieval system including winch-equipped retrieval assembly that is removably attachable to a rotorcraft to facilitate retrieval of a fixed-wing aircraft from wing-borne flight.
Temperature management systems for aerial vehicles
Temperature management systems for aerial vehicles may include heat pipes that are thermally connected to components that generate heat. The heat pipes may be routed through or adjacent to a propeller or propulsion airflow, or within or across a vehicle airflow, to dissipate heat from the components. A heat pipe may be selected from a plurality of heat pipes based on measured temperatures of components that generate heat, operational characteristics of the aerial vehicle and/or one or more propellers, and/or measured temperatures of other components that may be heated. Additional temperature management systems may include cool air ducts and cool air pipes that may be routed from a propeller or propulsion airflow, or a vehicle airflow, to components that generate heat or other components that may be cooled.
Hybrid propulsion vertical take-off and landing aircraft
A hybrid propulsion aircraft is described having a distributed electric propulsion system. The distributed electric propulsion system includes a turbo shaft engine that drives one or more generators through a gearbox. The generator provides AC power to a plurality of ducted fans (each being driven by an electric motor). The ducted fans may be integrated with the hybrid propulsion aircraft's wings. The wings can be pivotally attached to the fuselage, thereby allowing for vertical take-off and landing. The design of the hybrid propulsion aircraft mitigates undesirable transient behavior traditionally encountered during a transition from vertical flight to horizontal flight. Moreover, the hybrid propulsion aircraft offers a fast, constant-altitude transition, without requiring a climb or dive to transition. It also offers increased efficiency in both hover and forward flight versus other VTOL aircraft and a higher forward max speed than traditional rotorcraft.
Battery thermal management system and method
The battery thermal management system includes a battery pack, a circulation subsystem, and a heat exchanger. The system can optionally include a cooling system, a reservoir, a de-ionization filter, a battery charger, and a controller.
