The present invention provides a labelling apparatus for applying labels to containers, comprising a gluing device having a glue roller and a glue-application unit, which is assigned to the glue roller and is intended for applying glue to the glue roller, wherein the glue-application unit has at least one accommodating space for accommodating the glue, and wherein the glue roller and/or the glue-application unit are designed, and arranged in relation to one another, such that glue which is located in the accommodating space is applied to the surface of the glue roller only in one or more sub-regions of the overall extentas seen in the axial direction of the glue rollerof the surface of the glue roller.

A labeling method and a labeling device for applying labels onto containers, said device comprising a gluing unit for applying glue to the labels, in particular with a glue roller, a storage container for storing glue, which container has a device for removing glue from the storage container, said device comprising a deformation unit which is designed such that glue is pressed out of the storage container by deforming the storage container by means of the deformation device.

The labeling apparatus (1) comprises a transfer drum (21) for retaining on its outer surface (22) labels (2), a glue application roller (19) having an outer lateral surface (20) and being configured to apply a pattern of glue onto the labels (2). The transfer drum (21) comprises a plurality of pad assemblies (24) arranged along its outer surface (22) and pad assembly alignment means (42) configured to modify orientation and/or position of each one of the plurality of pad assemblies (24) to a respective working configuration for aligning each one of the plurality of pad assemblies (24) with respect to the outer lateral surface (20) of the glue application roller (19).
