The driving section moves the stapler in the Y direction. The controller controls an operation of the stapler and an operation of the driving section. The controller executes first control to supply a set current or a set voltage to the driving section, second control to supply, to the driving section, the same supply current as the set current or the same supply voltage as the set voltage, and third control to stop the supply of the supply current or the supply voltage. When the stapler executes the stapling process a plurality of times, the controller repeatedly executes the second control and the third control and causes the stapler to execute the stapling process during the execution of the second control.

A rotation device rotates a sheet on an upstream side of, in a sheet conveyance orientation, a working device positioned in a middle of a conveyance path, thereby changing an orientation of the sheet. An information acquiring portion acquires sheet size information and sheet orientation information representing a size and the orientation of the sheet in a sheet storing portion, and working position information representing a working position on the sheet. A rotation control portion controls the rotation device in accordance with the sheet orientation information and the working position information. The working control portion controls the working device in accordance with the orientation of the sheet after passing through the rotation device, and the sheet size information and the working position information.

A method for controlling an image processing apparatus includes lifting up a document tray upon placement of a document on the document tray, conveying the document placed on the document tray lifted up in the lifting, reading the document conveyed in the conveying, and registering, for an application, whether to lift up the document tray upon the placement of the document on the document tray.

Based on at least a reading mode being set on the document reading apparatus of reading a plurality of documents of a plurality of different sizes in a single job by the reading unit, first prompting information that prompts placement of the plurality of documents at a center of the placement section in a direction perpendicular to a document conveyance direction in which the conveyance unit conveys the plurality of documents is displayed on the display unit.

A document reading apparatus having a display unit and a placement section on which plural documents is to be placed includes a conveyance unit and a reading unit. The conveyance unit conveys a document placed on the placement section. The reading unit reads a document conveyed by the conveyance unit and generates image data. Based on at least a reading mode being set on the document reading apparatus of reading a plurality of documents of a plurality of different sizes in a single job by the reading unit, first prompting information that prompts placement of the plurality of documents at a center of the placement section in a direction perpendicular to a document conveyance direction in which the conveyance unit conveys the plurality of documents is displayed on the display unit.

A document transport device includes a placement portion, a slide member, a movable piece, and a detector. A document is to be placed on the placement portion. The slide member includes a document guide that contacts one lateral side of the document which is placed on the placement portion. The movable piece is provided to the slide member, and includes a shading pattern composed of plural patches that have plural densities corresponding to plural document sizes and having plural adjacent patch density differences that are different from each other. The detector detects a density of the shading pattern, and outputs an output signal for document size recognition.
