Elevator with debowing mechanism

Techniques are described herein for reducing bowing effects on a substrate while the substrate is being transported, for example in an elevator mechanism, from a first travel path to a second travel path, where the first travel path is offset from the second travel path so that the first travel path is not collinear with the second travel path. The substrate can be any substrate that is bowed and for which one wishes to eliminate or reduce the bow. One specific substrate that can benefit from the techniques described herein are personalized documents such as plastic cards including but not limited to financial (e.g. credit and debit) cards, drivers' licenses, national identification cards, gift cards, loyalty cards, employee badges, and other plastic cards which bear personalized data unique to the card holder and/or which bear other card or document information.

POST-PROCESSING DEVICE

A post-processing device includes a processing tray on which a medium on which recording was performed by a recording unit is loaded, a rear end alignment unit that aligns a rear end (an example of an end portion) of the medium on the processing tray, a post-processing unit that performs post-processing on the medium aligned by the rear end alignment unit, and a pressing member that presses the rear end of the medium. The post-processing unit is configured to be movable. The pressing member is provided to be rotatable in conjunction with movement of the post-processing unit, in a state in which the pressing member is in contact with the medium aligned by the rear end alignment unit.

Image forming apparatus and paper feeding method

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an accommodation unit and at least one driving roller. The accommodation unit accommodates a paper sheet therein. The at least one driving roller is disposed contactably with the paper sheet. A rotation direction of the at least one driving roller with respect to the paper sheet at a contact part between the paper sheet and the roller intersects a carrying direction of the paper sheet.

A sheet transfer device for transferring a sheet between two sheet processing devices comprising a switch for directing sheets from a first transport path coming from the first sheet processing device onto a two-way transport path or for directing sheets from the two-way transport path onto a second transport path for feeding sheets to the second sheet processing device. A transport pinch is provided along the two way transport path for reversing a sheet on the two-way transport path. When in use, the two-way transport path extends downward in a vertically extending free-hanging chamber wherein the sheet engaged by the transport pinch is allowed to hang freely under the influence of gravity. Thereby, a compact device is formed which is able to adjust the sheet to a suitable orientation for the second processing device. The device further prevents forces from the first processing device to disrupt the sheet's orientation in the second processing device.

TRANSPORT DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

A transport device including: a first transporting part that transports a medium; and a second transporting part that includes a pair of transport members each having a shaft and multiple rotary members arranged at intervals in an axial direction. The second transporting part transports the medium while nipping the medium between the pair of transport members after a leading end of the medium transported by the first transporting part comes into contact with the transport members. At least one of the multiple rotary members of one transport member is a circular-truncated-cone-shaped rotary member in which a diameter of one base is larger than a diameter of the other base.
