A sheet discharge device includes a discharge member and a control part. When a sheet is discharged to a first offset position, the control part shifts the discharge member to a first reception position separated from a home position in a second direction by a second distance shorter than a first distance, and shifts the discharge member to a first discharge position separated from the first reception position in the first direction by the first distance after the sheet is received. When the sheet is discharged to a second offset position, the control part shifts the discharge member to a second reception position separated from the home position in the first direction by the second distance, and shifts the discharge member to a second discharge position separated from the second reception position in the second direction by the first distance after the sheet is received.

A tape applicator configured for applying a tape to a carton (e.g., for sealing and/or assembling the carton). The tape applicator may include an edge folder assembly having an edge folder roller operatively coupled to a support member that allows the edge folder roller to rotate around the support member. The edge folder assembly may also include an alignment assembly (e.g., a self-alignment assembly) that allows the edge folder roller to move axially along the support member. The alignment assembly may comprise one or more biasing members (e.g., springs, or the like) and/or one or more restraining members (e.g., washers, or the like) to aid in allowing the edge folder roller to rotate and/or move axially with respect to the one or more support members in order to account for shifting of the tape transversely through the tape applicator.

A sheet printer includes a sheet conveyor assembly including a first conveyor with a first holding device configured for exerting a holding force on a sheet proportional to a coverage of the sheet on the first conveyor and a second conveyor upstream of the first conveyor including a second holding device configured for holding and releasing the sheet, a print head assembly positioned over the first conveyor, a detector assembly for sensing the transport of the first conveyor, a controller storing on its memory a sheet media catalogue and configured to control a release timing of the second holding device for releasing the sheet partially engaged by the first conveyor based on a media type parameter selected from the media catalogue and to control the print head assembly to commence printing the sheet based on transport information from the detector assembly.

An image forming apparatus includes a controller to move a sheet, in an image formation process on a first surface, to a standard position in a width direction and move the sheet, in an image formation process on a second surface, in the width direction based on a detected position in a case where a difference between the standard position and a first position in the width direction is equal to or smaller than a predetermined value. The controller moves the sheet, in the image formation process on the first surface, by the predetermined value in the width direction and moves the sheet, in the image formation process on the second surface, in the width direction based on detected positions in a case where the difference between the standard position and the first position in the width direction is larger than the predetermined value.

An image forming apparatus configured to form images on both sides of a sheet, includes an image forming unit, which is configured to form an image on an image bearing member, and a sheet conveying device, which is configured to move the sheet being conveyed toward a width direction, which is orthogonal to a conveyance direction. After the formed image is transferred onto a first surface of the sheet, the image forming apparatus inverts and conveys the sheet to transfer an image onto a second surface. Moreover, a side edge position of the sheet in the width direction is detected during conveyance for the transferring onto each of the first surface and the second surface, and an image writing start position for the image forming unit is determined based on a result of the detection to store a result of the determination in a memory.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a reversing roller pair, a moving unit, and an obtaining unit. The image forming unit forms an image on a sheet. The reversing roller pair nips the sheet having the image, rotates in a first direction, and then rotate in a second direction and conveys the sheet. The moving unit moves the reversing roller pair. The obtaining unit obtains the sheet length. If a first sheet having a first length is reversed and conveyed, the moving unit moves the reversing roller pair conveying the first sheet in the width direction by a first moving amount. If a second sheet having a second length greater than the first length is reversed and conveyed, the moving unit moves the reversing roller pair conveying the second sheet in the width direction by a second moving amount smaller than the first moving amount.

An image formation device includes: a registration roller pair configured to shift sheet in a second direction perpendicular to a first direction of a sheet feeding direction while holding the sheet; a feeding section provided upstream of the registration roller pair in the first direction and including a feeding belt configured to convey the sheet to the registration roller pair; a first air adjustment section configured to perform air suction or blowing for the sheet conveyed by the feeding belt; and a control section configured to switch between a first operation of controlling, when the sheet is conveyed by the feeding belt, the first air adjustment section to suck the sheet with air and a second operation of controlling, when the sheet is swung by the registration roller pair, the first air adjustment section to blow air on the sheet.

An image forming apparatus comprises a printing module, a transporting mechanism and a sorting module. The printing module prints data on media in order. The transporting mechanism transports the media past the printing module. The sorting module is disposed downstream of the transporting mechanism, and comprises an output mechanism, a rack and a driving pinion. The output mechanism transports the media out in a first direction. The rack is connected to the output mechanism. The driving pinion meshing with the rack drives the rack and the output mechanism to reciprocate in a second direction, different from the first direction, to sort the media into stacks. Thus, the sorting function can be achieved without providing a larger space and moving a discharge tray, and this is advantageous to the miniaturization of the image forming apparatus.

A drive transmission mechanism which transmits a rotational driving force to a roller to be shifted in directions of a rotational axis thereof is equipped with a rotary drive transmission member which is driven to rotate in a predetermined rotational direction, a holder which holds the roller in such a manner that the roller can slide freely in the rotational axis directions while rotating about the rotational axis, and a one-way clutch interposed between the rotary drive transmission member and the holder. The one-way clutch is configured to transmit a rotational driving force from the rotary drive transmission member to the holder, and also to permit the holder to rotate in the predetermined rotational direction relative to the rotary drive transmission member.

A sheet conveying device, which is incorporated in an image forming apparatus, includes a first detector to detect an angle deviation of a recording medium to a sheet conveying direction, a second detector to detect a lateral shift of the recording medium to a width direction, a third detector to detect at least one of the angle deviation and the lateral shift after correction of the angle deviation detected by the first detector and the lateral shift detected by the second detector, and a rotary body to perform a primary movement by (1) rotating in the sheet conveying direction and returning to a reference position and by (2) moving in the width direction and returning to the reference position, and a secondary movement by performing at least one of (1) and (2) after the primary movement.
