Method for the optimal alignment of veneer sheets at a lay-up station
The invention relates to a method for the optimal positioning of veneer sheets at a lay-up station, wherein the veneer sheets are attached for a veneer assembly composed of veneer sheets glued on top of each other. The method comprises determining an optimal position for each veneer sheet and a location for virtual alignment edges and laying up the veneer sheets as positioned in accordance with the virtual alignment edges, for a veneer assembly.
Veneer transporting apparatus
An apparatus for transporting veneer sheets, where the veneer sheets each have an upper surface, a lower surface, and a plurality of edges connecting the upper surface to the lower surface. The apparatus includes a vacuum source and a conveyor for transporting individual sheets of veneer along a direction of travel to a predetermined location. The conveyor includes a belt running in the direction of travel. A vacuum opening adjacent the belt is in communication with the vacuum source to draw respective sheets of veneer to the belt by suction applied to the upper surface or the lower surface of the veneer sheets via the vacuum opening. The position of the conveyor is adjustable in a direction transverse the direction of travel to accommodate veneer sheets having different lengths.
METHOD AND SYSTEM TO DETERMINE STRENGTH OF DRY WOOD PRODUCTS USING NEAR INFRARED IMAGING
Near InfraRed NIR technology, including NIR cameras and detectors, is used to accurately identify moisture content, the specific locations of the moisture on an entire surface of a dry veneer sheet or other wood product, and the strength of the dry veneer sheet or other wood product. Based on the identified moisture content and/or predicted strength for a dry veneer sheet or other wood product, one or more actions are taken with respect to dry veneer sheet or other wood product to ensure the dry veneer sheet or other wood product is put the most efficient, effective, and valuable use.
COMPOSITE PLY PLACEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system for placing a composite ply includes a transfer end effector that is movable relative to a carrier transfer device, configured to convey a ply carrier that supports the composite ply, and a placement end effector that is movable relative to the transfer end effector and to a forming tool. The transfer end effector is configured to remove the ply carrier, supporting the composite ply, from the carrier transfer device and to position the ply carrier for removal by the placement end effector. The placement end effector is configured to remove the ply carrier from the transfer end effector and to apply the composite ply to the forming tool.
VENEER SHEET FEED DEVICE FOR MULTISTAGE VENEER SHEET DRYER
A veneer sheet feed device for multistage veneer sheet dryer is provided between an auto feeder including a carry-in conveyor and a roll dryer (veneer sheet dryer). The veneer sheet feed device is provided with a guide member and a feed conveyor for feeding a veneer sheet carried in from the carry-in conveyor to each conveyance unit of the roll dryer in this order from a conveyance up stream side. The veneer sheet feed device further provided with a pivot mechanism that allows a starting end of the guide member belonging to the conveyance stage immediately above the conveyance stage in which the veneer sheet is carried this time from the carry-in conveyor to pivot to a portion above a horizontal position of a roller shaft located at a terminal end of this guide member.
Veneer moving apparatus
An apparatus for moving veneer includes a leaf spring having at lower tip end thereof sharpened edges and configured to move a veneer sheet toward its preceding stationary veneer sheet. Further lowering the leaf spring with the tip end already stuck in the veneer sheet causes the leaf spring to be resiliently deformed, which creates a force due to restoring force of the leaf spring that acts on the veneer sheet to move toward the preceding veneer sheet thereby to reduce or eliminate a gap between the two veneer sheets. Additional leaf spring movable with the above leaf spring and configured to hold the preceding veneer sheet during the movement may be provided.
System and a method for sorting veneer sheets
The invention relates to a system for sorting veneer sheets. The system comprises: an assembly section; a reject section; a feeding section arranged between the assembly section and the reject section; at least one detection device configured to scan a top surface of a topmost veneer sheet of a stack of veneer sheets to provide a plurality of successive scan lines images; at least two parallel transfer devices; and a control system. The control system is configured to provide a surface scan image from the plurality of successive scan lines images, determine one or more properties of the veneer sheet based on the surface scan image, and to control the at least two transfer devices to: move from an avoidance position to a pick-up position determined based on the surface scan image; pick up the topmost veneer sheet of the stack of veneer sheets; and transfer the picked-up veneer sheet to the assembly section in response to detecting that each of the determined one or more properties of the veneer sheet meets a respective predetermined criterion, or otherwise transfer the picked-up veneer sheet to the reject section. The invention relates also to a method for sorting veneer sheets.
Veneer sheet conveying apparatus and method of controlling the same
When a veneer conveyed out by a discharging conveyor is a product veneer, a sorting apparatus is rotationally driven to pierce the product veneer with needle-like bodies by a guide member and a push-up member (a rolling bearing). When the veneer conveyed out by the discharging conveyor is a trash veneer, the sorting apparatus is rotationally driven so that the trash veneer is not pierced by the needle-like body. With this configuration, the progress of the abrasion of the needle-like bodies can be delayed as compared with the configuration in which the product veneer and the trash veneer are both pierced by the needle-like body. As a result, the time to replace the needle-like bodies can be extended, whereby the running cost can be reduced.
