APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR WINDING TAIL SECTION OF OPTICAL FIBER CABLE ONTO A SPOOL
Embodiments of a method of collecting a tail section of a long product, such as an optical fiber cable, are provided. In the method, a lead wire from a tail spool is unwound, and the lead wire is fed through a flange of a main spool. The tail spool and the main spool have a common rotation axis. The lead wire is attached to the long product. The tail spool is rotated while holding the main spool stationary so as to wind the lead wire and the tail section onto the tail spool. The rotation of the tail spool is stopped, and the main spool and the tail spool are rotated together so as to wind the long product onto the main spool. Also provided are embodiments of a winding apparatus using the tail spool and a tail reel that includes the tail spool and a drive mechanism.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR WINDING A THREAD
A device and a method wind a thread on a winding machine. The winding machine has a spool sleeve and a spool holder, which has two oppositely disposed centering plates, having an adjustable axial distance relative to each other, for tensioning the spool sleeve. The centering plates each have a centering cone which engages in an open spool sleeve end, and an arrester hook for arresting the thread being provided in one of the centering plates. The arrester hook is oriented in the circumferential direction of the centering plate, and the centering plate having the arrester hook contains an outer cone which overlaps the outer diameter of the spool sleeve end. An inside of the arrester hook is formed by a nose-like recess provided in the outer cone.

Arrangement of elongated element on empty spool
An arrangement of an elongated element wound on a spool is presented. The elongated element has a leading end having a bent part and an unbent part. The bent part further having a beginning part and a trailing end. The leading end is positioned on the core of the spool and the bent part deviates at least for a part from a winding direction. The elongated element further forms subsequent windings in the winding direction on the core. At least one of the subsequent windings is wound over the beginning part of the bent part while an adhesive is provided to fix the trailing end of the bent part on the core simultaneously thereby securing elongated element on the spool.
