20180014357 · 2018-01-11 ·

A resistive heating element for use in or manufacturing of a component of an aircraft or spacecraft. The resistive heating element includes a sheet made from carbon nanotubes (CNTs) having a length of at least about 5 μ.Math.η, and formed as a nonwoven or composite polymer sheet, having good uniformity. The sheet is made with a basis weight between 1 and 50 grams per square meter (gsm), to provide a resistance value, inversely related to the basis weight, of at least about 0.01 ohms per square (Ω/□), and up to about 100 Ω/□. The CNTs can have an aspect ratio of at least about 1000:1, and at least about 10,000:1 or 100,000:1. The resistance value of the sheet can be controlled by the basis weight of CNTs, the diameter of the CNTs, and the length of CNTs, as well as chemical and mechanical treatments.

Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for fabrication of large diameter single-walled carbon nanotube films. Advantageously, large diameter single-walled carbon nanotube films may be useful as transparent electrodes with high transparency and lower sheet resistance. In one embodiment, the method includes supplying carrier carbon monoxide and catalyst precursor through a first inlet at a temperature below the reaction temperature of the catalyst precursor; supplying heated carbon monoxide through a second inlet such that the heated carbon monoxide mixes with the carrier carbon monoxide and the catalyst an aerosol; reacting the aerosol in a reaction chamber to form a composite aerosol of single walled carbon nanotubes, metal nanoparticles, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. In this embodiment, the heated carbon monoxide heats the catalyst precursor which reacts with the carbon monoxide to form carbon nanotubes.

The present invention teaches multiple three-dimensional nanosensing geometries for simultaneously assaying both large and small bio-related molecules in one device. The invention delivers broader sensitivity and selectivity than devices that assay small or large molecules separately. The combination assays all classes of molecules, e.g., proteins, lipoproteins, nucleoproteins, lipids, phospholipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, simple sugars, hormones, volatile organic compounds, drugs, drug metabolites, etc. Broad collection enables i) rapid and accurate diagnosis, ii) likely courses of treatments, and iii) timely feedback that monitors and follows the progressions of treatment(s). In one example, a patient's pattern of blood lipids, proteins—including proteins with alternate cleavage patterns, peptides—including endocrine peptides, thyroxine (and/or other hormones), and drug metabolites, forms a profile specific to that patient at that time. The profile is inputted for analysis by comparing it to a library of pooled data. Applying artificial intelligence (AI) to this comparison allows accurate diagnosis and then can suggest historically validated treatments most suited to that patient.
