MULTI-FUNCTIONAL HYBRID MATERIAL BASED ON SEPIOLITE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY AND BIO-REMEDIATION
A multifunctional hybrid material based on sepiolite for environmental recovery and bio-remediation is described. In particular, the invention describes the design and development of suitably functionalized hybrid nanomaterials starting from sepiolite and the subsequent study of the absorbent and degrading properties in relation to aromatic hydrocarbons, by activating hydrocarbon-clastic bacteria. These nanomaterials have been prepared in order to remove hydrocarbon pollutants (e.g. oil) in natural matrices (marine environment), with potential applications in the field of environmental remediation.
METHOD FOR TREATING WATERS, SEDIMENTS AND/OR SLUDGES
The present invention relates to a method for conditioning water, sediments and/or sludges using alkaline earth metal peroxide, in particular calcium peroxide, and cable bacteria, to a kit comprising a composition comprising at least one alkaline earth metal peroxide and cable bacteria, and to uses of a composition which comprises at least one alkaline earth metal peroxide in combination with cable bacteria.
CONSTRUCTED WETLAND SYSTEM ENHANCED BY IMMOBILIZED LACCASE
A constructed wetland system enhanced by immobilized laccase, it includes wetland plants, a matrix layer and a water distribution system, the wetland plants growing on the matrix layers, the matrix layer including a laccase catalyst and gravel, the laccase catalyst and gravel are distributed at intervals in a modular manner in a ratio of 1:5, the water distribution system is arranged on both sides of the matrix layer. The laccase catalyst is prepared by using a co-immobilization technology. The system improves the removal effect of hard-to-degrade organic matter in wastewater, and solves the problems of toxicity and stress of the hard-to-degrade organic matter existing in the prior art and the problems of matrix adsorption saturation.
MICROBE-BASED SYSTEMS, COMPOSITIONS, AND METHODS THEREOF
The present disclosure describes a microorganism support structure, including a gas-permeable layer comprising two opposing surfaces; a microorganism adhesive coats at least one surface of the gas-permeable layer; and a microorganism disposed on the microorganism adhesive-coated surface of the layer. The microorganism adhesive enhances the adhesion of the microorganism on the layer compared to a gas-permeable layer that does not have the microorganism adhesive.
RECIRCULATING AQUACULTURE SYSTEM AND METHODS THEREOF
The present disclosure provides a recirculating aquaculture system comprising a) a wastewater treatment system and b) a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production system. In particular, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) can be utilized as the PHA in such a system. Methods of treating wastewater for reuse by contacting the wastewater with one or more zeolites to remove material from the wastewater and reusing the treated wastewater are also provided as well as methods of producing a PHA such as PHB from organic waste. Moreover, food compositions comprising a PHA biomass as well as associated methods are also provided.

Processes for treatment of wastewater
The present disclosure relates to processes for treating wastewater such as acid rock drainage. The processes may, for example, comprise subjecting the wastewater to a microbial fuel cell process, neutralizing the acid with a base comprising calcium to produce an aqueous composition comprising calcium ions and subjecting the aqueous composition comprising calcium ions to a biological precipitation process to precipitate the calcium ions as calcium carbonate.
Enhanced reduction bioremediation method using in-situ alcoholysis
The present subject matter relates to a composition for in-situ remediation of soil and aquifer comprising of a water miscible oil; a solvent (for dissolving the vegetable oil to form a solution); and a catalyst (selected from enzymes biocatalysts, particularly lipases, alkaline compounds, heat or combinations thereof). The present subject matter provides a process for the preparation of the composition and application of the same for surface remediation. Further, the present subject matter provides an in-situ alcoholysis remediation method to reduce contaminant concentrations in aquifer and soil by enabling the generation of both soluble and slowly fermenting electron donors required for the anaerobic remediation of organohalide compounds contaminating soils and groundwater. The method of remediation includes mixing an engineered water-soluble oil or water miscible oil with a solvent and adding a catalyst to groundwater to promote the formation of fatty acid alkyl esters, carboxylic acid salts and glycerol.
