TOOL FOR LOCALLY COOLING A GLASS SHEET
20230002267 · 2023-01-05 ·

A tool for local cooling by contact of a glass sheet at a temperature higher than 450° C., known as a contact tool, includes a contact face suitable for coming into contact with the glass sheet, the tool including an internal pipe for the circulation of a coolant, in particular air. The tool is used in a device for bending and/or cooling a glass sheet, in particular individual, the tool coming into contact with the glass sheet while it is held by a bending tool or by a cooling frame after bending. A compression zone is created that is capable of being drilled to form an edge having compressive stresses.

Thermoformed cover glass for an electronic device

Glass articles and methods for producing glass articles for a portable electronic device are disclosed. Properties of the glass articles, such as cover members, are improved through chemical strengthening, thermoforming, or a combination thereof. The glass articles may include barrier layers to prevent diffusion of ions between glass layers of the glass article, internal compressive stress regions, or a combination thereof.

Manufacture of laminated glazing

A process for manufacturing a bent laminated glazing, includes manufacturing a first bent laminated glazing including at least two glass substrates locally comprising, in each of the at least two glass substrates and facing each other in all the at least two glass substrates, a zone including compressive stresses, and cutting the first bent laminated glazing through its entire thickness along a line included in the zone in order to form local cut edges and, after cutting, a second bent laminated glazing with the local cut edges having compressive edge stresses.

Assemblies and methods for bending glass

Various embodiments disclosed relate to a method for bending a glass substrate. The method includes actuating at least one heat shield to a first position at least partially covering an edge portion of a first major surface of the glass substrate. The method further includes heating the glass substrate. The method further includes actuating the at least one heat shield to a second position at least partially uncovering the edge portion of the glass substrate.

AUTOMOTIVE GLASS STRUCTURE HAVING FEATURE LINES AND RELATED METHODS OF MANUFACTURE

Automotive glass structures having curves and feature lines and methods for forming the same are provided. An example method includes applying localized heat (e.g., via a laser, heating element) to a location of a substantially planar glass structure and bending the glass structure at that location (e.g., along a line of the planar glass structure) to form a feature line in the glass structure. The bending can be formed to have a radius of curvature of between 2 mm and 5 cm. Additional layers of curved or joined glass layers may further be included to form a curved multi-layer glass structure for automotive use.

GLASS ARTICLES HAVING ADHESIVE BEAD WITH HIGH ASPECT RATIO AND METHOD OF PREPARING SAME

A glass article including a frame having a frame support surface, a glass sheet having a first major surface and a second major surface in which the second major surface is opposite to the first major surface, and an adhesive bead disposed between the frame support surface and the second major surface. The adhesive bead defines a bead path. The adhesive bead has a cross-section perpendicular to the bead path, and the cross-section includes a width and a height. The height is a maximum dimension perpendicular to the second major surface of the glass sheet, and the width is a maximum dimension parallel to the second major surface of the glass sheet. An aspect ratio of the height to the width is at least 0.6, and the width is 2 mm or less.

An apparatus for processing cover windows includes a first mold including a first support a second support spaced apart from the first support, where the first support and second support are configured to hold processing targets; a second mold; and a third mold spaced apart from the second mold. The second mold includes a first pressurizing portion overlapping with the first support, having a first thickness, and a second pressurizing portion connected with the first pressurizing portion and configured to overlap with the first support, having a second thickness thinner than the first thickness. The third mold includes a third pressurizing portion overlapping with the second support, having a third thickness, and a fourth pressurizing portion connected with the third pressurizing portion and overlapping with the second support, having a fourth thickness thinner than the third thickness.

Thermoformed cover glass for an electronic device

A property-enhanced cover sheet, and methods for forming a property-enhanced cover sheet, for a portable electronic device are disclosed. A property-enhanced cover sheet is formed by thermoforming a glass sheet into a specified contour shape while modifying one or more properties of the glass. Other property-enhanced sheets can be formed by layering two or more glass sheets having different material properties, and then thermoforming the layered sheets into a required contour shape. Property enhancement for a cover sheet includes, hardness, scratch resistance, strength, elasticity, texture and the like.
