PRODUCING HOLES IN GLASS CONTAINERS
A glass container that includes a base defining a hole, and methods of manufacturing and using the glass container, is disclosed. The glass container is manufactured by providing the container and cutting a hole in a wall of the container. The hole may be cut into the wall by any technique in which glass material is separated from the wall including by mechanical shearing, thermal energy, and/or fluid impingement. To use the glass container, a deformable blow-out plug may be inserted into the hole to fluidly seal the hole, a liquid beverage may be introduced into the container, a closure may be coupled to the container to close the container and provide a pressurizable package, and thereafter the package may be internally pressurized by introducing a pressurizing gas into the package.
ANTI-RESONANT HOLLOW CORE OPTICAL FIBER AND METHODS OF MAKING
An anti-resonant hollow core optical fiber preform that includes an outer cladding, a plurality of structural tubes, and a central support tube. The outer cladding has a length, a central longitudinal axis, and a hollow interior. The plurality of structural tubes are disposed within the hollow interior of the outer cladding, the plurality of structural tubes each having a length that extends the length of the outer cladding. And the central support tube is disposed within the hollow interior of the outer cladding such that the plurality of structural tubes are disposed radially outward of the central support tube, the central support tube having a length that extends along the central longitudinal axis of the outer cladding. Furthermore, the length of the central support tube is less than the length of the outer cladding.
Heating burner for producing an integral bond between components of quartz glass
Known heating burners for producing a welded joint between components of quartz glass include a burner head in which at least one burner nozzle is formed, a burner-head cooling system for the temperature control of the burner head and a supply line connected to the burner nozzle for a fuel gas. Starting from this, to modify a heating burner in such a way that impurities in the weld seam between quartz-glass components to be connected are largely avoided, it is suggested that the burner head should include a base body of silver or of a silver-based alloy.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FORMING A QUARTZ GLASS OPTICAL COMPONENT
A method of producing a quartz glass optical component is provided. The method includes providing a cylindrical quartz glass body made of core rod glass and cladding glass. The quartz glass body has a square cut first end having a first outer diameter. The method further includes providing a glass handle having a first end and an opposing square cut second end having a second outer diameter which is between 50% and 110% of the first outer diameter; attaching the square cut end of the glass handle to that of the quartz glass body; and using the glass handle to guide the quartz glass body through a draw furnace. A distortion in a clad-to-core ratio proximate the interface of the cylindrical quartz glass body and the glass handle is less than 5%.

Laser bonded transparent glass-based articles and methods of making the same
Methods of making a transparent glass-based article including at least two transparent glass-based substrates and a laser-induced bond therebetween. Methods include arranging the two transparent glass-based substrates relative to each other to form a contact area. Methods also include providing a laser beam contiguous the contact area to bond the two transparent glass-based substrates.
