Fully ceramic microencapsulated fuels containing tristructural-isotropic particles with a coating layer having higher shrinkage than matrix
The present invention relates to a method for preparing a fully ceramic capsulated nuclear fuel material containing three-layer-structured isotropic nuclear fuel particles coated with a ceramic having a composition which has a higher shrinkage than a matrix in order to prevent cracking of ceramic nuclear fuel, wherein the three-layer-structured nuclear fuel particles before coating is included in the range of between 5 and 40 fractions by volume based on after sintering. More specifically, the present invention provides a composition for preparing a fully ceramic capsulated nuclear fuel containing three-layer-structured isotropic particles coated with the substance which includes, as a main ingredient, a silicon carbine derived from a precursor of the silicon carbide wherein a condition of ΔL.sub.c>ΔL.sub.m at normal pressure sintering is created, where the sintering shrinkage of the coating layer of the three-layer-structured isotropic nuclear fuel particles is ΔL.sub.c and the sintering shrinkage of the silicon carbide matrix is ΔL.sub.m; material produced therefrom; and a method for manufacturing the material. The residual porosity of the fully ceramic capsulated nuclear fuel material is 4% or less.

POROUS BALLISTIC ARMOR
An article includes a body having a first phase comprising alpha silicon carbide and pores contained in the body; the pores having a mean spacing distance of at least 205 microns and not greater than 300. The body can have a ballistic.
REFRACTORY ARTICLE
A refractory article including a body having central opening extending through at least a portion of the body, the central opening having a receiving surface having a convex curvature. In an embodiment, the body can include a coupling protrusion extending from a portion of an upper surface of the body and a coupling depression on a portion of a bottom surface of the body.
SILICON CARBIDE MATRIX COMPOSITE MATERIAL
SiC matrix composite material, where heat-resistant long fiber such as carbon fiber is employed as a material for reinforcement and SiC is employed for the matrix, which significantly improves mechanical properties such as strength and toughness. The SiC matrix composite material, includes a SiC matrix and heat-resistant long fiber, wherein the SiC matrix includes both of alpha-type SiC and beta-type SiC, and the alpha-type SiC and the beta-type SiC are detected by micro-region X-ray diffraction with an X-ray beam diameter of no greater than 300 micrometers substantially at every region of every cross-section of the SiC matrix, the beta-type SiC has an average crystallite size that is no greater than 500 nm and greater than an average crystallite size of the alpha-type SiC, and the SiC matrix composite material has a porosity of no greater than 20% by volume.

LAMINATED MEMBER
The present invention relates to a laminated member including: a glass member having a linear transmittance at a wavelength of 850 nm of 80% or more; a bonding layer including a resin and lying on the glass member; and a Si—SiC member lying on the bonding member, in which the Si—SiC member has an average linear expansion coefficient α at from 20° C. to 200° C. of from 2.85 ppm/° C. to 4.00 ppm/° C.
JOINING MATERIAL WITH SILICON CARBIDE PARTICLES AND REACTIVE ADDITIVES
In some examples, a method including forming a layer of a slurry composition between a first ceramic or CMC part and a second ceramic or CMC part. The slurry composition includes a carrier material; and a plurality of solid particles in the carrier material. The plurality of solid particles includes first silicon carbide (SiC) particles defining a first average particle size, second SiC particles defining a second average particles size that is less than the first average particles size, and reactive additive particles. The method includes heating the layer of slurry composition to react the plurality of reactive additive particles to fuse the plurality of first SiC particles and the plurality of second SiC particles together with the reactive additive particles, wherein the fused layer of the slurry composition forms a joint layer that joins the first ceramic or CMC part to the second ceramic or CMC part.
Silicon carbide member for plasma processing apparatus, and production method therefor
A low-cost, durable silicon carbide member for a plasma processing apparatus. The silicon carbide member for a plasma processing apparatus can be obtained by processing a sintered body which is produced with a method in which metal impurity is reduced to more than 20 ppm and 70 ppm or less, and an α-structure silicon carbide power having an average particle diameter of 0.3 to 3 μm and including 50 ppm or less of an Al impurity is mixed with 0.5 to 5 weight parts of a B.sub.4C sintering aid, or with a sintering aid comprising Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and Y.sub.2O.sub.3 with total amount of 3 to 15 weight parts, and then a mixture of the α-structure silicon carbide power with the sintering aid is sintered in an argon atmosphere furnace or a high-frequency induction heating furnace.
