Preparation of ionic liquids based on boron clusters

Electrolytes and electrochemical cells include a novel ionic liquid having a quaternary cation and a boron cluster anion. In some versions, the boron cluster anion will be a functionalized or unfunctionalized icosahedral boranyl or carboranyl anion. Electrochemical cells have an electrolyte including the ionic liquid. In some versions, the ionic liquid is used as a solvent to dissolve an ionic shuttle salt for transport of active material, with an optional co-solvent. Methods to synthesize the ionic liquid include contacting a boron cluster salt with a quaternary salt to form the ionic liquid by a metathesis reaction.

Ionic Liquid-Based Nanoemulsion Formulation for the Efficient Delivery of Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Therapeutic Agents

The present invention discloses an ionic liquid composition comprising an at least partially hydrophobic ionic liquid, wherein the at least partially hydrophobic ionic liquid comprises a dication comprising two monocationic groups linked by a bridging group wherein the bridging group provides an at least partially hydrophobic character. The composition may also include a hydrophilic ionic liquid. The hydrophobic ionic liquid may include a quaternary ammonium group which may be substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated, linear, branched, cyclic or aromatic and the bridging group is a unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alkylene or C.sub.3-C.sub.10 alkoxyalkyl. Also disclosed is a nanoemulsion formulation which includes the ionic liquid compositions, at least one polymer, a hydrophobic liquid, an aqueous liquid, and a hydrophobic or hydrophilic therapeutic agent. Synthesis of and compositions containing diaminoacetals and diaminoketals

The present invention relates to the reduction of polycyano compounds to produce polyamines, in particular diaminoacetal and diaminoketal compounds, and their use as curing agents in epoxy resin compositions. The reduction with molecular hydrogen can be carried out using a metal catalyst selected from GROUP VIII and a catalytic promoter. The reduction can include anhydrous or aqueous ammonia. The reaction can be carried out in continuous and batch modes with catalyst and solvent recycling. The epoxy resin composition consisting of an epoxy resin and a polyamine curing agent that can be used in fiber-reinforced composite materials, coating materials, and the like.
