Synthesis of functional polyurethanes and polyesters from biomass-derived monomers
A method of making polyesters and polyurethanes from biomass-derived polyols. The polyol is biomass-derived and has the structure: ##STR00001##
wherein dashed bonds are single or double bonds and R is selected from the group consisting of —OH and ═O. Polyurethanes are made by reacting the polyol with a diisocyanate. Polyesters are made by reacting the polyol with a dicarboxylic acid.
MULTI-AZIRIDINE COMPOUND
The present invention relates to a multi-aziridine compound having: a) at least 2 of the following structural units (A) whereby R.sub.1 is H; R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 are independently chosen from H, a linear group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, a branched or cyclic group containing from 3 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, phenyl, benzyl, or pyridinyl; R.sub.3 is chosen from a linear group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, a branched or cyclic group containing from 3 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally containing one or more heteroatoms, phenyl, benzyl, or pyridinyl; or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 (in case R.sub.2 is different than H) may be part of the same cyclic group containing from 3 to 8 carbon atoms; R′ and R″ are independently H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; and b) a molecular weight of at least 600 Daltons, wherein the molecular weight is determined using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry according to the description.
GLYCIDYL (METH)ACRYLATE POLYMER POLYOL STABILIZERS
This invention relates to novel macromers that comprise a polyether polyol having (meth)acrylate unsaturation. These novel macromers are the polymerization product of a glycidyl (meth)acrylate, with a polyether polyol, and optionally, an alkylene oxide, in the presence of a double metal cyanide catalyst. This invention also relates to preformed stabilizers prepared from these macromers, and to polymer polyols prepared from these novel macromers and novel preformed stabilizers. The present invention also relates to processes for preparing these compositions, to polyurethane foams comprising these polymer polyols, and to processes for preparing these polyurethane foams.

End-capped polyisobutylene polyurethane
A polymeric material includes a polyisobutylene-polyurethane block copolymer. The polyisobutylene-polyurethane block copolymer includes soft segments, hard segments, and end groups. The soft segments include a polyisobutylene diol residue. The hard segments include a diisocyanate residue. The end groups are bonded by urea bonds to a portion of the diisocyanate residue. The end groups include a residue of a mono-functional amine.
TWO-COMPONENT COATING SYSTEM
The present invention relates to a two-component coating system comprising a first component and a second component each of which is separate and distinct from each other, wherein the first component comprises a carboxylic acid functional polymer dissolved and/or dispersed in an aqueous medium, and the second component comprises a multi-aziridine compound having: a) from 2 to 6 of the following structural units (A): b) whereby m is an integer from 1 to 8; and o R′ and R″ are both H b) one or more linking chains wherein each one of these linking chains links two of the structural units A; c) one or more connecting groups whereby each one of the connecting groups connects two of the structural units A; and d) a molecular weight in the range from 840 Daltons to 5000 Daltons, wherein the molecular weight is measured using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

The invention relates to particles comprising a particular (aziridinyl hydroxy)-functional organic component. The invention further relates to mixtures comprising said particles. The invention further relates to particles obtained by a process comprising—amongst others—the steps of providing an aqueous dispersion comprising a particular (aziridinyl hydroxy)-functional organic component. The invention further relates to a kit-of-parts comprising in one of its parts an aqueous dispersion comprising a particular (aziridinyl hydroxy)-functional organic component. The invention further relates to cured forms of the various particles, mixtures, aqueous dispersions, aqueous compositions, coating compositions, and aqueous coating compositions. BIODEGRADABLE PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE
A biodegradable pressure-sensitive adhesive which can be readily coated indirectly onto biodegradable carriers, which comprises
at least 60 wt % of at least one polyurethane, and
at least one sulfonated carboxylic ester; and a method for producing a biodegradable adhesive tape, which comprises providing a pressure-sensitive adhesive of the invention as a dispersion in at least one organic solvent; coating this dispersion onto a release liner; removing the organic solvent; and transferring the pressure-sensitive adhesive onto a biodegradable carrier.
WATERBORNE CROSSLINKER COMPOSITION
The present invention relates to a multi-aziridine crosslinker composition, characterized in that the multi-aziridine crosslinker composition is an aqueous dispersion having a pH ranging from 8 to 14 and comprises a multi-aziridine compound in dispersed form, wherein said multi-aziridine compound has: a. from 2 to 6 of the following structural units A: whereby R.sub.1 is H, R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 are independently chosen from H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R a is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, m is 1, b. one or more linking chains wherein each one of these linking chains links two of the structural units A; and c. a molecular weight in the range from 500 to 10000 Daltons wherein the molecular weight is determined using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry according to the description.
