Cellulose ester and polymeric aliphatic polyester compositions and articles
A cellulose ester composition is provided comprising at least one cellulose ester and at least one polymeric aliphatic polyester (PAP), and optionally at least one impact modifier and/or at least one monomeric plasticizer. Processes for producing the cellulose ester compositions as well as articles made using these compositions are also provided.
Regioselectively substituted cellulose esters
The present application discloses regioselectively substituted cellulose esters, films made from the regioselectively substituted cellulose esters and methods for making the same. The regioselectively substituted cellulose esters are synthesized using trifluoroacetic anhydride and cellulose with various acyl donors or acyl donor precursors.
THERMALLY EXPANDABLE CELLULOSE-BASED MICROSPHERES HAVING LOW EXPANSION TEMPERATURES
The present disclosure relates to thermally expandable microspheres comprising a polymeric shell surrounding a hollow core, wherein the hollow core comprises a blowing agent, and the polymeric shell comprises a carboxylate-functionalised cellulose, wherein the thermally expandable microspheres have a temperature at which expansion starts, T.sub.Start, of from 80° C. to less than 135° C. The present disclosure further relates to a process for preparing expandable microspheres as well as to thermally expandable microspheres obtained by such process, the process comprising mixing a carboxylate-functionalised cellulose, an organic solvent, a blowing agent and, optionally, a polymer shell enhancer and then spraying the thus obtained mixture into a drying equipment to produce the thermally expandable microspheres having a polymeric shell surrounding a hollow core, in which the polymeric shell comprises the carboxylate-functionalised cellulose, and the hollow core comprises the blowing agent.
Cellulose ester compositions
The application discloses cellulose ester compositions comprising two or more miscible blends of cellulose ester each comprising a plurality of propionyl substituents having tunable rheology and physical properties not achievable by any one of the cellulose esters alone. These cellulose ester compositions can be further processed, with or without other materials such as plasticizers, flame retardants, and blowing agents, and converted into articles. These cellulose ester compositions have higher modulus and have low to no butyryl/butyric acid content relative to cellulose acetate butyrate (“CAB”) cellulose ester compositions made from CABs having a butyryl content of greater than 30 wt %.
FOAMED CELLULOSE ESTERS
Cellulose ester compositions for expanded foam applications are provided. Specifically, production of melt processed cellulose esters has historically been limited to standard extrusion, molding and solvent casting methods. A combination of cellulose ester formulation and selected blowing agents have been found to produce articles of good density and good dimensional stability for an expanded foam process using conventional polystyrene processing equipment.
MESOPOROUS POLYMERIC PARTICULATE MATERIAL
A particulate material comprising porous polymeric particles is described. The porous polymeric particles have an average pore diameter of from 2 to 50 nm and a volume mean particle diameter D[4,3] of less than 100 μm. The material is obtained or obtainable by spray-drying a polymer solution. The particles find use as a solubility-enhancing carrier for active pharmaceutical compounds. Methods of manufacturing the particulate material and pharmaceutical compositions including the particulate material loaded with one or more active pharmaceutical compounds are also described.
Cellulose based composition
The present invention concerns a cellulose based composition for manufacturing a film or foil, which composition comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose acetate propionate and ethyl cellulose, together with tall oil fatty acid ester, as well as a manufacturing method thereof. The invention also concerns packaging film comprising the composition and use of the composition.
REGIOSELECTIVELY SUBSTITUTED CELLULOSE ESTER BASED NEGATIVE BIREFRINGENT COMPENSATION FILMS HAVING IMPROVED WAVELENGTH DISPERSION
The present application discloses stretched films comprising regioselectively substituted cellulose esters and a component A: (I), (II), (III), or (IV), wherein A, B, C, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.8, R9, m, n, and k are defined herein. The films exhibit negative birefringence and improved wavelength dispersion.
