Self-Disinfecting Frequently Touched Surface

A frequently-touched surface for use by multiple users includes a surface protected by a laminate structure. The laminate structure includes a self-sterilizing sulfonated polymeric outer layer, sulfonated to a certain % to kill at least 95% microbes within 30 minutes of contact. The self-sterilizing sulfonated polymer layer can be applied to the frequently touched surface by any of coating, lamination, and spraying. The sulfonated polymer in embodiment is selected from perfluorosulfonic acid polymers, polystyrene sulfonates, sulfonated block copolymers, sulfonated polyolefins, sulfonated polyimides, sulfonated polyamides, sulfonated polyesters, sulfonated polysulfones, sulfonated polyketones, sulfonated poly(arylene ether), and mixtures thereof. The sulfonated polymer has a degree of sulfonation of at least 10%.

Highly fire-resistant expanded polymeric material

A highly fire-resistant expanded polymeric material for thermal insulation, acoustic insulation and/or fire barrier contains rubber, expandable graphite, at least one alkaline earth metal component selected from alkaline earth metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal hydroxides, hydrates of either, and combinations thereof, and a component containing silica or a silicate. The expanded polymeric material is preferably manufactured by a process including decomposition of a chemical blowing agent.

Chlorosulfonated polyethylene latex

A chlorosulfonated polyethylene latex, which is safe for living bodies and the environment and can be used as a latex component in a resorcin-formalin-latex adhesive, contains an aqueous dispersion medium, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, and an emulsifying agent of a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether sulfate of formula (I) below and a fatty acid salt. The latex is excellent in standing stability and mechanical stability. In formula (I), R.sup.1, R.sup.2, n, and M represent an alkyl group of 6 to 20 carbon atoms, hydrogen or a methyl group, an integer of 2 to 40, and an alkali metal, respectively.

A method of devulcanizing vulcanized rubber is described. The method includes steps of: (a) providing at least one vulcanized rubber composition; (b) grinding the vulcanized rubber into chips or pellets; (c) mixing the ground rubber obtained from step (b) in such a way as to homogenize the form and temperature of same; (d) carrying out a non-degrading mechanical treatment on the mixed rubber at the end of step (c) to obtain a polymeric composite. Also described is a thermoplastic material and an elastomeric mixture which comprise, in the formulation of same, at least one polymeric composite obtained by this method of devulcanization.
