COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND RELATED ARTICLES AND METHODS
A reinforcement sheet has a composite layer including fibres and a polymer A and a coating layer including polymer B, each polymer having at least 65 mol % of a repeat unit of formula:
##STR00001##
wherein for each polymer A and B, t1, and w1 independently represent 0 or 1 and v1 represents 0, 1 or 2. A method of forming the reinforcement sheet is also disclosed, in addition to a method for forming an article comprising a laminate of the reinforcement sheets and the article comprising such a laminate. The repeat unit may be ether-ether-ketone.
FIBER-REINFORCED RESIN BASE MATERIAL
A fiber reinforced resin base material is formed by impregnating a continuous reinforcing fiber(s) or a reinforcing fiber material having a discontinuous fiber(s) dispersed therein with a resin composition which exhibits a single glass-transition temperature before and after being heated at 400° C. for one hour, wherein the resin composition is composed of (A) a thermoplastic resin having a glass-transition temperature of 100° C. or more and (B) a thermoplastic resin having a glass-transition temperature of less than 100° C.
The fiber reinforced resin base material has excellent impregnation properties and thermal stability, having fewer voids, and having surface quality and high heat resistance.
FIBER-REINFORCED RESIN PREPREG, MOLDED ARTICLE, AND FIBER-REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC RESIN PREPREG
A fiber-reinforced resin prepreg and a molded article obtained by molding a molding material including the fiber-reinforced resin prepreg are described. The fiber-reinforced resin prepreg contains a carbon fiber bundle and a matrix resin composition. The ipa value of the carbon fiber bundle measured by an electrochemical measurement method is 0.14 μA/cm.sup.2 or more. The impact strength of a film obtained by solidifying the matrix resin composition under particular molding conditions is 12.0 kJ/m or more.
VISCOUS BIO-DERIVED SOLVENTS FOR STRUCTURED ORGANIC FILM (SOF) COMPOSITIONS
A method of forming a pre-cure solution for a structured organic film (SOF) is described, including contacting at least one type of segment and at least one type of pre-linker with a bio-based solvent. The method also includes dissolving the at least one type of segment and the at least one type of pre-linker within the bio-based solvent. The method also includes where the bio-based solvent has a viscosity above 0.92 MPa-s. A composition including a bio-based solvent is also disclosed.
The ipa value of the carbon fiber bundle measured by an electrochemical measurement method is 0.14 A/cm.sup.2 or more.
Rubber Compositions Containing Phloroglucinolic Resins for Use in Tire Treads of Heavy Vehicles
A silane-based additive, rubber formulations including the additive and tires having tread portions made with the additive, together with methods of forming those products, are provided. Uncured rubber formulations in accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention comprise (1) a rubbery primary polymer or polymer blend, such as natural rubber and/or synthetic rubber; (2) reinforcing silica filler; (3) methylene donor compound; (4) a silane containing one or more moieties of the aforementioned network forming polymer. And (5) phloroglucinol resin. In particular networks which can be generated in-situ are preferred. The cured rubber formulation should comprise the silica, having the load-bearing-path reinforcing interpenetrating polymer network coupled thereto, within the rubber matrix, and not directly to the rubber chains via sulfidic linkages.
