Asphalt binders and methods for making and using same. In at least one specific embodiment, the asphalt binder can include a bitumen and a glyceride and fatty acid mixture. The glyceride and fatty acid mixture can include one or more triglycerides, at least 1 wt % of one or more diglycerides, and at least 5 wt % of one or more fatty acids, based on the combined weight of the one or more triglycerides, the one or more diglycerides, and the one or more fatty acids. The asphalt binder can be made by combining a bitumen and a glyceride and fatty acid mixture. A paving composition can be made by combining a plurality of solids and the asphalt binder. A road can include a plurality of solids mixed with the asphalt binder.

Disclosed herein are asphalt compositions. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include asphalt, a polymer, and a basic salt such as aluminum sulfate. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include asphalt, a polymer, and an inorganic acid such as phosphoric acid. The asphalt compositions can include asphalt in an amount of from 50 wt % to 99.9 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt composition. In some embodiments, the asphalt compositions can include a styrene-butadiene copolymer in an amount of from 0.05 wt % to 10 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt composition. The basic salt can be present in an amount of from 0.01 wt % to 5 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt compositions. The acid can be present in an amount of from 0.005 wt % to 0.1 wt %, based on the weight of the asphalt compositions. Methods of making and using the asphalt compositions are also disclosed.

SULPHUR ADDITIVE AND SULPHUR MODIFIED BITUMEN

The present disclosure discloses an additive for preparing modified bitumen comprising a) sulphur with a weight percentage in the range of 90-95% with respect to the additive; b) at least two H2S suppressants with a combined weight percentage in the range of 4-7% with respect to the additive; c) bitumen with a weight percentage in the range of 0.5-3% with respect to the additive; and d) at least one smell masking agent in the range of 0.05-1.0% with respect to the additive. The present disclosure provides a convenient process for the preparation of the additive. The present disclosure also reveals a sulphur modified bitumen and a process for preparing the sulphur modified bitumen.

The invention relates to the use of an additive chosen from the compounds of formula (1) and the compounds of formula (2) as follows: in which A, B, E, Y, Z and d and j are as defined in the description, the anti-ageing additive being present in an amount of between 0.01% and 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the bituminous product, in order to delay the ageing of the bitumen. The invention also relates to a composition comprising:—a bituminous product,—at least one anti-ageing additive as described above, and—at least one anti-oxidant agent, the anti-ageing additive being present in an amount of between 0.01% and 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the bituminous product.

A modified bitumen composition includes bitumen, biomass oil including one or more phenolic compounds, and added sulfur. The modified bitumen composition includes between about 5 wt% and about 25 wt% of the added sulfur, at least some of the added sulfur is present as polysulfide chains, and at least some of the one or more phenolic compounds are configured to covalently bind to the polysulfide chains. Making a modified bitumen includes combining bitumen and elemental sulfur to yield sulfur-extended bitumen, and combining the sulfur-extended bitumen with biomass oil including one or more phenolic compounds to yield the modified bitumen.

A binder composition for asphalt pavements that includes: an asphalt binder; an elastomeric polymer; a wax modifier; and optionally at least one of: i) fumed silica or fumed alumina; and ii) a saponified fatty acid and a resin acid gelling compound. The composition is applied as a tack coat and/or a stress absorbing membrane interlayer and is non-tracking.

SULFUR EXTENDED ASPHALT MODIFIED WITH CRUMB RUBBER FOR PAVING AND ROOFING

The present invention relates to asphalt compositions. The present invention provides for a sulfur rubber asphalt binder composition that includes a base asphalt having a softening point, elemental sulfur, and a recycled crumb rubber material. The crumb rubber material is combined with the base asphalt and the elemental sulfur to create the sulfur rubber asphalt binder composition. The crumb rubber material is present in the sulfur rubber asphalt binder in an amount effective to increase the softening point as compared to the softening point of the base asphalt.

A sulfur concrete has constituents that include a coarse aggregate in an amount in a range of 40-50 wt % of the weight of the sulfur concrete, a fine aggregate in an amount in a range of 20-40 wt % of the weight of the sulfur concrete, a fine filler in an amount in a range of 8-12 wt % of the weight of the sulfur concrete, and a binder in an amount in a range of 12-20 wt % of the weight of the sulfur concrete. The binder includes elemental sulfur in an amount in a range of 25-60 wt % of the weight of the binder and asphalt in an amount in a range of 40-75 wt % of the weight of the binder.

Provided herein is a method of making an asphalt membrane emulsion, the method including: forming a first phase; forming a second phase; pumping the first phase and the second phase into a colloid mill; and mixing the first phase and second phase into the colloid mill to form the asphalt membrane emulsion. The first phase includes asphalt, asphalt modifier, and mineral filler. The second phase includes water and an emulsifier. A method of applying an asphalt membrane emulsion to fill a crack is also provided.
