AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION

The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an aqueous coating composition having an excellent finished appearance, such as smoothness and distinctness of image, as well as metallic feel and no metallic mottling when the composition comprises an effect pigment; excellent coating film performance, such as water resistance; and excellent storage stability. The present invention provides an aqueous coating composition comprising (A) acrylic resin particles, (B) a water-soluble acrylic resin, and (C) a phosphoric acid compound represented by a specific formula and having hydrocarbon (and optionally polyoxyalkylene); and also provides a method for forming a coating film, comprising applying the aqueous coating composition, as well as an article coated with the aqueous coating composition.

Synthesis of bimetallic oxide nanocomposites using poly (ionic liquid)

A method of synthesizing bimetallic oxide nanocomposites includes the steps of: providing a first metal salt solution; adding an oxidizing agent to the first metal salt solution while degassing the solution with an inert gas; heating the first metal salt solution; adding a second metal salt solution to the heated first metal salt solution to form a reaction mixture; adding a solution comprising a poly (ionic liquid) into the reaction mixture; adding a first base into the reaction mixture; adding a second base while stirring and maintaining a temperature ranging from about 40° C. to about 65° C. to provide a solution including a bimetallic oxide nanocomposite precipitate. The first metallic salt solution can include FeCl.sub.3 dissolved in water. The second metallic salt solution can include CuCl.sub.2 dissolved in water. The bimetallic oxide nanocomposites can be combined with epoxy resin to coat a steel stubstrate.

The polymer compositions comprise a polymer material which is obtainable by reacting: a) a polymer P1 having at least one functional group of the formula (I), where k is an integer from 0 to 4; n is 0 or 1 p is an integer from 1 to 10, the number average of p being from 1.5 to 10; Q is a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of —O— and —NH—; P is a p-valent hydrophilic neutral polymer radical; and R.sup.1 is as defined in the claims; with b) a succinic anhydride of the formula (II) where R is C.sub.4-C.sub.24-alkyl or C.sub.4-C.sub.24-alkenyl.

The invention relates to a method for improving rheological properties of an aqueous pigment slurry. In the method dispersion agent is added to an aqueous phase of a slurry comprising pigment particles or to the aqueous phase into which the pigment particles are to be added. The dispersion agent comprises styrene acrylate copolymer. The invention relates also to dispersion agent for a pigment slurry comprising a first component comprising styrene acrylate copolymer and a second component comprising a conventional dispersion agent, such as a straight-chain polyacrylate.

Cellulose platelet compositions, methods of preparing cellulose platelet compositions and products comprising same

A composition and method of preparing a composition is presented wherein the composition comprises cellulose platelets and the cellulose platelets comprise at least 60% cellulose by dry weight, less than 10% pectin by dry weight and at least 5% hemicellulose by dry weight. The composition can be concentrated to at least 25% by weight solids content by pressing under low pressure, whilst retaining the ability to be re suspended within an aqueous medium. The resulting aqueous medium obtains the desired properties of the composition, such as increased viscosity or increased dispersion of pigment particles, for example, to the same extent as the composition before pressing.

Acid suppressible rheology modifier stabilized with phosphoric acid ester surfactant

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous solution of an acid suppressible hydrophobically modified alkylene oxide polymer and a phosphoric acid ester surfactant. The composition of the present invention provides a pourable thickener with high solids content and good phase stability.

AQUEOUS ETHYLCELLULOSE DISPERSIONS With polymeric additive

Provided is an aqueous composition having pH of 8 or higher and comprising (a) a solid phase comprising dispersed particles that comprise an amount of ethylcellulose polymer, (b) an amount of one or more polymeric dispersants, wherein said polymeric dispersant has a weight-average molecular weight of 5,000 daltons or higher, and wherein said polymeric dispersant has an acid value of 60 to 190 mg KOH/g of polymer. Also provided is a method of making such a composition using an extruder. Also provided is a film made by removing water from such a composition.
