Adhesives comprising polyindane resins

The present invention is generally related to various types of compositions that comprise a polyindane resin. In particular, the polyindane resins may be utilized in various polymer-based and elastomer-based formulations in order to enhance several properties and characteristics of those formulations. More specifically, adhesive formulations are provided that comprise at least one polyindane resin, which may be used to replace or enhance the functionality of existing hydrocarbon resins typically used in adhesive formulations. Compositions comprising at least one thermoplastic elastomer and at least one polyindane resin are also provided.

HOT-MELT COMPOSITION AND SEALING MATERIAL

A hot-melt composition includes, with respect to 100 parts by mass of (A) a hydrogenated styrene thermoplastic elastomer having styrene-based polymer blocks at both ends and a hydrogenated diene polymer block at a middle portion and having a mass-average molecular weight of 250,000-600,000, 20-150 parts by mass of (B) a first styrene-based tackifying resin having a softening point of 135-160 C., 100-400 parts by mass of (C) a second styrene-based tackifying resin having a softening point of 105-135 C., 100-500 parts by mass of (D) a third tackifying resin for the hydrogenated diene polymer block having a softening point of 100-160 C. and 500-1,500 parts by mass of (E) a liquid softener. The hot-melt composition has excellent adhesion and easy peel ability, and is a material suitable as a sealing material for a lighting device of an automobile or the like.

An adhesive is provided that will automatically signal that it has cured a sufficient amount for objects, such as flooring, to be installed on the adhesive. The cure-signaling adhesive can be a one component high strength adhesive composition which can signal that it has cured a sufficient amount and developed sufficient viscosity and tackiness (pressure sensitivity) for flooring or other objects to be installed on the adhesive. The adhesive can be formulated to change pH during curing and to signal sufficient curing by including a color change pH indicator in the adhesive. The adhesive can be formulated to have low or substantially no VOC emissions and can be formulated with bio-sourced ingredients.
