The present invention also provides method of treating a subject afflicted with a fungal infection comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of an inhibitor so as to treat the subject afflicted with the fungal infection, wherein the inhibitor inhibits ceramide synthase 1 (Cer1) in the fungal cells of the fungus.
