A family of rivets including both blind and bucked-type rivets made at least partially from an amorphous metal alloy. A blind rivet includes a head portion and a tail portion. At least one of the head portion and the tail portion is configured to elastically deform to secure a first member in position relative to a second member. The head portion and the tail portion may include one or more deformable legs having an interface feature configured to engage with one of the first member and the second member. A bucked-type rivet assembly includes a formable member and an anvil. The anvil is configured to thermoplastically deform the formable member proximate to the second member by passing current through an electrical circuit that includes at least one of the formable member and anvil.

Systems and methods for implementing bulk metallic glass-based macroscale compliant mechanisms

Systems and methods in accordance with embodiments of the invention implement bulk metallic glass-based macroscale compliant mechanisms. In one embodiment, a bulk metallic glass-based macroscale compliant mechanism includes: a flexible member that is strained during the normal operation of the compliant mechanism; where the flexible member has a thickness of 0.5 mm; where the flexible member comprises a bulk metallic glass-based material; and where the bulk metallic glass-based material can survive a fatigue test that includes 1000 cycles under a bending loading mode at an applied stress to ultimate strength ratio of 0.25.

Provided is a method for increasing anti-galling of parts using a coating material comprising an amorphous alloy. The parts may be a vehicle or machine component, for example, that are subject to frictional and sliding forces. The disclosed coating reduces galling and friction between surfaces, and increases the lift of such parts.

Systems and Methods for Modifying Metal Feedstock Material

Systems and alloying methods for forming metals are described. Waste materials from various industrial processes and botched master alloy production heats result in numerous byproducts that can form constituent components for the formation of bulk alloys with higher value and more diverse applications. Reusing and upcycling industrial byproducts into material with specific structure and properties result in additional commercial and industrial applications and value.
