A deposition system includes a system housing having a housing interior, a fixture transfer assembly having a generally sloped fixture transfer rail extending through the housing interior, a plurality of sequentially ordered deposition chambers connected by the fixture transfer rail, a controller interfacing with the processing chambers and at least one fixture carrier assembly carried by the fixture transfer rail and adapted to contain at least one substrate. The fixture carrier assembly travels along the fixture transfer rail under influence of gravity. A substrate fixture contains a substrate. The substrate fixture comprises a fixture frame. The fixture frame is defined by multiple circular members adjacently joined in a circular arrangement. Each circular member has a fixture frame opening sized to receive the substrate. Lens support arms may integrate into the circular members, extending in a curved disposition into the fixture frame opening to retain the substrate. A deposition method is also disclosed.

A method for producing an Al—Cr—O-based coating on a workpiece surface, including: a) placing a workpiece in an interior of a vacuum chamber, and b) depositing a film comprising aluminum and chromium on the workpiece surface to be coated, wherein a ratio of aluminum to chromium in the film in atomic percentage has a first value corresponding to Al/Cr≤2.3, and c) forming volatile compounds of Cr—O, thereby causing at least part of the chromium contained in the film to leave the film in a form of Cr—O volatile compounds, and d) executing step c) during a period of time, within which the chromium content in the film is reduced until attaining a second value of the ratio of aluminum to chromium in the film in atomic percentage corresponding to Al/Cr≥3.5, thereby the film is transformed into a film containing a reduced content of chromium.

The present disclosure relates to coated non-metallic substrates and coated metallic substrates, and methods for producing such coated substrates. A variant of the method is characterized in that a mat or glossy coating is underneath a metallic layer obtained in some cases by way of vapor deposition and/or sputtering. In another variant, the metallic is sufficiently thin so that it remains transparent or translucent to visible light. The coated substrates may include multiple layers such as metallic layers, polysiloxane layers, a color layer, a conversion layer, a primer layer, and/or a transparent or colored layer. An application system for applying a metallic layer to at least one surface of a substrate may include a plasma generator and/or a corona system for treating one or more layers by plasma treatment and/or corona treatment.

The device includes a chamber that allows the negative ion to be generated therein, a gas supply unit that supplies a gas which is a raw material for the negative ion, a plasma generating portion that generates plasma, a voltage applying unit that applies a voltage to the object, a control unit that performs control of the gas supply unit, the plasma generating portion, and the voltage applying unit. The control unit controls the gas supply unit to supply the gas into the chamber, controls the plasma generating portion to generate the plasma in the chamber and to generate the negative ion by stopping the generation of the plasma, and controls the voltage applying unit to start voltage application during plasma generation and to continue voltage application after plasma generation stop.

Such methods may include: supplying a substrate including, on one of the faces thereof, a thin film of the material; and biased plasma treating the assembly formed by the substrate and the thin film at a given temperature and for a given time, so as to obtain a crystalline reorganization over a depth of the thin film, the biased plasma treatment including an electrical biasing of the thin film and an exposure of the film thus biased to a hydrogen plasma, the biased plasma treatment being implemented at a temperature that is below the melting points of the thin film and of the substrate.

Apparatus for depositing germanium and carbon onto one or more substrates comprises a vacuum chamber, at least first and second magnetron sputtering devices and at least one movable mount for supporting the one or more substrates within the vacuum chamber. The first magnetron sputtering device is configured to sputter germanium towards the at least one mount from a first sputtering target comprising germanium, thereby defining a germanium sputtering zone within the vacuum chamber. The second magnetron sputtering device is configured to sputter carbon towards the at least one mount from a second sputtering target comprising carbon, thereby defining a carbon sputtering zone within the vacuum chamber. The at least one mount and the at least first and second magnetron sputtering devices are arranged such that, when each substrate is moved through the germanium sputtering zone on the at least one movable mount, germanium is deposited on the said substrate, and when each substrate is moved through the carbon sputtering zone on the at least one movable mount, carbon is deposited on the said substrate.

The method can include forming a titanium (Ti) layer on a substrate by sputtering, reducing the titanium layer by spraying a reductant gas containing a hydrogen gas (H.sub.2) and a purge gas onto the titanium layer while moving in a first direction in relation to the substrate and exhausting the reductant gas and the purge gas. The method can also include forming graphene by spraying a reactant gas containing a graphene source and the purge gas onto the titanium layer while moving in a second direction opposite the first direction in relation to the substrate and exhausting the reactant gas and the purge gas.
