Coated cutting tool
An object of the invention is to provide a coated cutting tool whose tool life can be extended by having excellent wear resistance and fracture resistance. The coated cutting tool includes: a substrate; and a coating layer formed on a surface of the substrate, in which the coating layer includes a lower layer, an intermediate layer, and an upper layer in this order from a substrate side to a surface side of the coating layer, the lower layer includes one or more Ti compound layers formed of a specific Ti compound, the intermediate layer contains TiCNO, TiCO, or TiAlCNO, the upper layer contains α-type Al.sub.2O.sub.3, an average thickness of the lower layer is 2.0 μm or more and 8.0 μm or less, an average thickness of the intermediate layer is 0.5 μm or more and 2.0 μm or less and is 10% or more and 20% or less of a thickness of the entire coating layer, an average thickness of the upper layer is 0.8 μm or more and 6.0 μm or less, and in the intermediate layer, a ratio of a length of CSL grain boundaries to a total length 100% of a total grain boundary is 20% or more and 60% or less.
Turbine Engine Abradable Systems
A turbine engine has: a first member (22) having a surface bearing an abradable coating, the abradable coating (36) being at least 90% by weight ceramic; and a second member (24) having a surface bearing an abrasive coating. The abrasive coating (56) has a metallic matrix (64) and a ceramic oxide abrasive (66) held by the metallic matrix, the first member and second member mounted for relative rotation with the abrasive coating facing or contacting the abradable coating. At least 50% by weight of the ceramic abrasive has a melting point at least 400K higher than a melting point of at least 20% by weight of the ceramic of the abradable coating.
OXIDATION AND WEAR RESISTANT COATING
A method includes applying a material coating on a surface of a machine component using a thermal spray, wherein the material coating is formed from a combination of a hardfacing material and aluminum-containing particles. The method also includes thermally treating the material coating to generate an oxide layer comprising aluminum from the aluminum-containing particles, wherein the oxide layer is configured to reduce oxidation of the hardfacing material.
Thermal Barrier Coating
A coated substrate has a substrate and a coating system having one or more ceramic layers. At least a first layer of one of the one or more ceramic layers is a columnar layer having as-deposited columns and intercolumn gaps. The intercolumn gaps have a mean width at least one of: at least 4.0 micrometers; and at least 1.5% of a thickness of said first layer.

The supporting layer can include a preparatory metal, and the coating can impart wear and corrosion resistant properties to the friction surface. A slidable component including a wear-resistant coating includes a slidable component, and a wear-resistant coating provided on a slide surface of the slidable component. Molybdenum monoxide layers, and production thereof using PVD
The invention relates to a coating comprising at least one molybdenum-containing layer having molybdenum oxide, said molybdenum being essentially molybdenum monoxide. The invention further relates to a PVD process for producing the disclosed coating, in which the layer comprising the molybdenum monoxide is produced using arc evaporation. The invention also relates to a component that has said coating.
Method of producing an anti-wear layer and anti-wear layer produced by means of said method
The invention relates to the production of wear-resistant layers which are exposed to friction wear on surfaces of components of internal combustion engines. In the process, wear-resistant layers are formed on the respective surface by electric arc discharge under vacuum conditions. The wear-resistant layers are formed from at least approximately hydrogen-free tetrahedrally amorphous (ta-C) comprising a mixture of sp2 and sp3 hybridized carbon and have a microhardness of at least 3500 HV and an arithmetical mean roughness value Ra of 0.1 μm without a mechanical, physical and/or chemical surface processing taking place.
