IONIC LIQUID FOR PICKLING STAINLESS STEEL AND METHOD FOR PICKLING STAINLESS STEEL BY USING SAME
Disclosed are an ionic liquid for pickling a stainless steel capable of rapidly removing oxide scale from the stainless steel at room temperature without using nitric acid or hydrofluoric acid and a method for pickling a stainless steel by using the same. The method for pickling a stainless steel according to an embodiment includes performing electrolytic pickling treatment by immersing a stainless steel in a pickling solution including an ionic liquid, wherein the ionic liquid comprises at least one of an imidazolium cation, a betainium cation, a sulfonium cation, a piperidinium cation, a phosphonium cation, an ammonium cation, a pyridium cation, a pyrrolidinium cation, and a morpholinium cation, as a cationic functional group, and at least one of a halide anion, a sulfonate anion, an alkylsulfate anion, a phosphinate anion, a salicylate anion, a nitrate anion, a tetrafluoroborate anion, a hexafluorophosphate anion, and a bistriflimide anion, as an anionic functional group.
Process for removing aluminum-silicon coatings from metallic structures, and related processes for preparing magnetic components
A method for selectively removing an aluminum-silicon coating fired on a surface of a metallic structure is described. The method includes the step of contacting the coating with molten potassium hydroxide (KOH), under conditions sufficient to remove the coating without substantially affecting the metallic surface. Methods for preparing a magnetic component are also described. They involve masking pre-selected regions of the surface of the component, using an aluminum-silicon coating that is fired onto the surface, prior to a nitriding step. The coating is then removed according to the procedure outlined herein.
Scale conditioning process for advanced high strength carbon steel alloys
Aspects treat and remove a layer of scale comprising iron oxide and alloying elements oxides that is formed on an advanced high strength metal surface comprising at least two (2) percent by weight of alloy. A first conditioning process compromises structural integrity of or removes iron oxide within the scale layer to expose the alloy oxide to chemical engagement with a disposed aqueous alkali salt solution that is heated to transforming one or more alkali salts within the disposed solution into a quasi-molten form. The alloy oxide is oxidized via reaction with the solution quasi molten alkali salt(s) and water, forming one or more water soluble alkali alloy compounds. A water rinse dissolves and rinses the water soluble compound(s) from the steel product surface of the advanced high strength, leaving a film of iron oxide on the surface that is removed via a final pickling process.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING TITANIUM-PLATED MEMBER
A method for manufacturing a titanium-plated member includes: preparing a substrate having an electrically conductive surface; immersing the substrate in a molten-salt titanium plating solution composition containing ions of at least one Group I metal selected from the group of Li.sup.+ and Na.sup.+, F.sup., and Ti.sup.n+; forming a titanium plating film on the surface of the substrate by applying electric current to cause the substrate immersed in the molten-salt titanium plating solution composition to serve as a cathode and cause the surface of the substrate to be coated with titanium; cleaning the titanium plating film by bringing the titanium plating film into contact with a cleaning molten salt, the cleaning molten salt containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of alkaline metal chloride, alkaline earth metal chloride, and potassium fluoride; and cleaning the titanium plating film with water.
