There is provided a method of electrodepositing a metal on an electrically conductive particulate substrate comprising the steps of: (i) providing a cathode; (ii) providing an anode formed from the metal to be electrodeposited; (iii) providing the substrate, cathode and anode within an electrodeposition bath comprising an electrolyte; and (iv) providing a voltage between said anode and cathode causing metal ions to flow from the anode to the cathode, wherein a separator is provided between the anode and the cathode.
SUPER WATER-REPELLENT LAYER STRUCTURE ON WHICH DROPLETS CAN MOVE IN ONE DIRECTION AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME
Provided is a super water-repellent layer structure. The super water-repellent layer structure comprises a substrate having a ratchet structure formed on the upper surface thereof and a super water-repellent nanowire structure formed on the ratchet structure, wherein water drops can move in one direction without an external force. A super water-repellent layer structure can be provided which enables water drops to move in one direction using the ratchet structure and the super water-repellent nanowire structure even without force applied from the outside in a state in which the surface thereof is hardly inclined. Thus, such a super water-repellent layer structure can be applied to various industries such as water harvesting, drainage of condensation water of a heat exchanger, etc., a microfluidic industry.

It is preferable that the proportion of polymer particles each having a particle diameter of 0.05 μm or larger be 80% by volume or more with respect to all the heterophasic-polymer particles and the proportion of polymer particles each having a particle diameter of 0.05 μm or larger but smaller than 0.15 μm be 10%-60% by volume with respect to all the heterophasic-polymer particles.
Methods for reducing thermal resistance of carbon nanotube arrays or sheets
Carbon nanotube (CNT) forests or sheets coated and/or bonded at room temperature with one or more coatings were measured to produce thermal resistances that are on par with conventional metallic solders. These results were achieved by reducing the high contact resistance at CNT tips and/or sidewalls, which has encumbered the development of high-performance thermal interface materials based on CNTs. Resistances as low as 4.9±0.3 mm.sup.2-K/W were achieved for the entire polymer-coated CNT interface structure.
Nanomaterials for attaching mechanical force sensors
A system comprises a member to receive a mechanical force, and a sensor to sense the mechanical force. The sensor is mounted on the member using a set of nanoparticles and a set of nanowires coupled to the set of nanoparticles.
Vertically Integrated Pure Lithium Metal Production and Lithium Battery Production
Methods are proposed for fabricating highly pure lithium metal electrodes from aqueous lithium salt solutions by means of electrolysis through lithium ion selective membranes, performed at constant current densities between about 10 mA/cm.sup.2 and about 50 mA/cm.sup.2, and wherein the constant current is applied for a time between about 1 minute and about 60 minutes. The electrolysis is performed under a blanketing atmosphere, the blanketing atmosphere being substantially free of lithium reactive components. Methods are further proposed for vertically integrating the electrolytic fabrication of highly pure lithium metal electrodes into the production of lithium metal batteries, the fabrication of lithium electrodes and lithium metal batteries being performed in a single facility.
ANTIREFLECTIVE SYNTHETIC BROCHOSOMAL COATINGS
Synthetic brochosomes can be prepared by disposing a monolayer of first polymer microspheres on a substrate and forming a layer of metal on the monolayer of the first polymer microspheres. A monolayer of second polymer microspheres is then disposed on the layer of metal to form a template. The second polymer microspheres are smaller than the first polymer microspheres. A brochosome material is then electrodeposited on the template. The brochosome material is selected from the group consisting of a metal, a metal oxide, a polymer or a hybrid thereof. The first polymer microspheres and the second polymer microspheres are then removed to form a coating of synthetic brochosomes of the brochosome material on the substrate.
