Various implementations include a melt-spun filament that has a radial cross section that has two substantially parallel linear perimetrical sections and first and second curved perimetrical sections. The first curved perimetrical section extends between first ends of the linear perimetrical sections, and the second curved perimetrical section extends between second ends of the linear perimetrical sections. The curved perimetrical sections are convex. According to some embodiments, the curved perimetrical sections are semi-circular or semi-elliptical. A plurality of melt-spun filaments may be included in a bundle of filaments and/or a yarn made with the melt-spun filaments. In addition, a spinneret plate for spinning the melt-spun filaments and a method of making the melt-spun filaments is also provided.

METHOD OF MAKING UNIFORM SPUNBOND FILAMENT NONWOVEN WEBS

A method of making nonwoven webs comprising providing a spinneret including a pattern of conduits forming an extrusion region; directing only a first stream of molten propylene polymer into a region adjacent the first side of the spinneret, directing only a second stream of molten propylene polymer into a region distal to the first side of the spinneret, extruding only the first stream propylene polymer through the exit openings in a first zone where the exit opening comprises exit ports in the first zone having a first density; extruding only the second stream propylene polymer through the exit openings of a second zone where the exit opening comprises exit ports in the second zone having a second density less than the first density; and the second zone is distal to the first side with the first zone being between the second zone and the first side.

MELT BLOWING NOZZLE APPARATUS
20230082772 · 2023-03-16 ·

A melt blowing nozzle apparatus for producing a plurality of fiber strands from a polymer melt has at least one melt inlet and at least one process air inlet. The apparatus further has a nozzle plate having a plurality of small tubes, each having a capillary bore for extruding the fiber strands, and an extrusion plate arranged underneath the nozzle plate, which extrusion plate has a plurality of extrusion openings for blowing out the fiber strands, corresponding to the small tubes. Each extrusion opening encloses one of the small tubes with an air gap. To ensure mountability in case of a large number of small tubes, a channel system of a common distribution device is provided for connection and distribution of the melt inlet to the capillaries of the small tubes and for connection and distribution of the process air inlet to the extrusion openings of the extrusion plate.
