Cable for a tire

A cable as may be used in a tire, including a pneumatic tire. The cable is constructed in a manner that can provide a desired stiffness to a tire as well as a certain amount of structural elongation. The cable can be provided in a manner that does not necessarily result in an increase in the overall weight of the tire as would occur by e.g., increasing the diameter of a conventional cable construction.

WIRE ROPE

This wire rope is provided with a plurality of strands that are twisted with each other, and the plurality of strands each have a configuration in which a plurality of element wires are twisted with each other. The wire rope is further provided with a single wire that is disposed in a recess section formed on the outer peripheral side of the wire rope by two strands that are adjacent to each other along the peripheral direction of the wire rope. In a transverse cross-section of the wire rope, a portion of the single wire is positioned inside a virtual circumscribed circle of one of the two strands.

Draw tape for cables including an elongated flexible element made of a helical multifilament rope composed of three filaments or strands helically wound about a common longitudinal axis. According to an additional feature, the rope is hammered. Still according to an improvement, the rope is externally covered by a jacket.

A bicycle cable includes an inner line and an outer sheath. The inner line connects a driving mechanism and a driven device of a vehicle therebetween. The driven device includes a brake device or a derailleur. The inner line is composed of a plurality of threads twining together. The inner line has a maximum outer diameter ranged of 1.2 mm, and a minimum outer diameter ranged between 0.90-1.0 mm. The outer sheath has an outer diameter ranged between 3.5-4.5 mm and an inner diameter ranged between 2.0-2.2 mm. The outer sheath is sleeved onto the inner line. A gap formed between an inner face of the outer sheath and the inner line has a maximum ranged between 0.8 mm to 1.3 mm.

Hybrid rope or hybrid strand

A hybrid rope (40) or a hybrid strand (50) comprising a core element (42, 52), a first (44, 54) and a second (46, 56) metallic closed layer surrounding said core element (42, 52). The core element (42, 52) includes a bundle of synthetic yarns. The first metallic closed layer (44, 54) includes a plurality of first strands of wires helically twisted together with the core element (42, 52) in a first direction. The second metallic closed layer (46, 56) includes a plurality of second wires or strands helically twisted together with said core element (42, 52) and said first metallic closed layer (44, 54) in a second direction. The cross-sectional area of the core element (42, 52) is larger than the total cross-sectional area of the first (44, 54) and second (46, 56) metallic closed layers. A corresponding method of producing such a hybrid rope or hybrid strand is also disclosed.

Two-layered metal cord rubberized in situ by an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer

A metal cord has an M+N construction with two concentric layers. An internal first layer or core includes M wire(s) of diameter d.sub.1, M having a value from 1 to 4. An external second layer includes N wires of diameter d.sub.2 and is positioned around the core, the N wires being wound in a helix. Between the wires of the two layers are gaps, some or all of which include a filling rubber based on an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer. The filling rubber may be, for example, based on an SBS or an SIS block copolymer. When used in a molten state, the thermoplastic elastomer presents no problem due to unwanted stickiness if the filling rubber overspills outside the cord after manufacture. The unsaturated and therefore (co)vulcanizable nature of the thermoplastic elastomer makes it compatible with diene rubber matrices used as calendering rubber in metal fabrics intended for reinforcing tires.
