WELDING UNIT
20170292225 · 2017-10-12 ·

A welding unit for welding together two rails of a track includes two rail clamping assemblies which can be moved towards one another in a longitudinal direction of the rail along unit guides by compression cylinders. Each rail clamping assembly is equipped with clamping jaws which are displaceable in pairs in a pressing plane and each of which has a contact surface provided for application to a rail web. The clamping jaws are each constructed as clamping levers which are pivotable in the pressing plane about a lever pivot axis. The contact surface intended for application to the rail web is disposed at a first lever end spaced apart from the lever pivot axis. The two contact surfaces of each rail clamping assembly are each positioned closer to the oppositely disposed rail clamping assembly than the two lever pivot axes.

Welding unit and method for welding rails of a track

A welding unit for welding rails of a track has a unit lower edge forming a lower boundary of the welding unit, with regard to a vertical, and a shearing device provided for removing a weld bead. A rail base section of the shearing device is designed to be lowered, relative to the welding unit, by way of a drive from a rest position situated above the unit lower edge into a shearing position situated below the unit lower edge. Thus, the welding operation can be carried out without lifting the rails from the sleepers.

METHOD FOR SEALING A CASTING MOULD FOR ALUMINOTHERMIC RAIL WELDINGS

A casting mold (6) consists of two mold halves (4, 5), which are intended for setting up on both sides of the welding groove (3) between two rail ends (1, 2) to be connected, thereby forming a casting space (8) representing a cross-sectional profile of the rails. For sealing the casting space (8) between the rail bodies on both sides of the welding groove (3) and the wall portions (9, 10) of the casting mold (6) that are facing this welding groove, inserted in gaps (11, 12) are strips consisting of a compound at least containing expandable graphite, which as a result of heat being supplied during a preheating process expands and forms a reliable seal. In comparison with using filler sand at this point, there is the advantage that a much smaller quantity of compound has to be carried along when working on the laid track.

Gauge Plate Insulator

A gauge plate insulator includes an L-shaped insulating member having a base configured to be positioned between first and second gauge plate members and a leg extending from the base, a metallic backing plate having a first part configured to engage a first gauge plate member, a second part configured to engage the leg of the L-shaped insulating member, and a third part extending between the first part and the second part of the metallic backing plate, a first fastener configured to be received by a first opening and a second fastener configured to be received by a second opening defined by the second part of the metallic backing plate and an opening defined by the leg of the L-shaped insulating member, and an insulation plate configured to be positioned between a portion of the second fastener and the second part of the metallic backing plate.
