A translatable, ultra-high pressure liquid jet system includes a translatable frame configured to maintain mechanical contact with a rail. The liquid jet system includes a liquid jet processing head affixed to the frame and configured to maintain a distance from the rail and provide a liquid jet that contacts the rail. The liquid jet system also includes an ultra-high pressure liquid pump in fluid communication with the liquid jet processing head. The ultra-high pressure liquid pump is configured to supply pressurized liquid to the liquid jet processing head.

A method of operating an ultra-high pressure liquid jet system includes positioning, relative to a rail, a translatable frame having a liquid jet processing head fluidly connected to an ultra-high pressure liquid pump. The method also includes providing, to the liquid jet processing head, via the ultra-high pressure liquid pump, a pressurized fluid forming a liquid jet that contacts the rail such that the pressurized fluid is at least 20,000 PSI during a rail cutting operation or a re-profiling operation. Steps of the method include providing an abrasive feed system coupled to the liquid jet processing head to provide an abrasive to the liquid jet and translating the liquid jet processing head relative to the rail, thereby performing a processing operation on a linear length of the rail along a direction of translation of the rail.

The present invention relates to a railway weed control vehicle. It is described to activate (110) at least one weed control unit to control weeds along and around a railway track. The railway track comprises rails and sleepers. The at least one electrode based weed control unit is mounted at at least one first position of the vehicle. Sensor data is acquired (120) by at least one sensor. The sensor data relates to at least one location along and around the railway track. The at least one sensor is mounted at at least one second position of the vehicle. With respect to a forward movement direction of the vehicle the at least one second position is in front of the at least one first position. The sensor data is provided (130) to a processing unit. The sensor data is analysed (140) by the processing unit to determine locations of rail infrastructure components in addition to the rails and sleepers. The processing unit modifies (150) activation of one or more electrode based weed control units of the at least one electrode based weed control unit comprising utilisation of at least one location of the determined locations of the rail infrastructure components.

A foreign matter removing device Y1 for use in a turnout X1 is provided with a base rail 100 and a tongue rail 200. The foreign matter removing device Y1 is provided with an inlet member 4 including an inlet channel 44, the inlet member 4 extending in the width direction of the base rail 100 in a region lower than a bottom surface B1 of the base rail 100; and a connecting portion 22 including a communication channel 22c for communicating a nozzle portion 21 which injects a foreign matter removable medium to between the base rail 100 and the tongue rail 200, and the inlet channel 44. The railroad track includes a pair of railroad rails. The debris removal system is rotatably coupled to the vehicle at a first location and configured to lift debris from the railroad track. The first conveyor system is rotatably coupled to the vehicle at a second location and configured to receive the debris from the debris removal system.

A translatable, high pressure liquid jet system for a rail cleaning or surface treatment operation, the system comprising: a translatable frame configured to maintain mechanical contact with a rail; a liquid jet processing head affixed to the frame and configured to maintain a distance from the rail and provide a liquid jet that contacts the rail; a high pressure liquid pump in fluid communication with the liquid jet processing head, the high pressure liquid pump configured to supply pressurized liquid to the liquid jet processing head; an abrasive feed system in fluid communication with the liquid jet processing head; and at least one nozzle for directing a jet of water and abrasive onto a portion of the rail for cleaning or treating the rail.
