Biochar containment boom and blanket
A water remediation device is disclosed, including a water-permeable outer fabric defining a cavity therein, a buoyant core disposed within the cavity, and a mass of water remediation media including biochar disposed between the buoyant core and the water-permeable outer fabric. The remediation media is configured to reduce a quantity of a polyfluoroalkyl substance present in a sample of contaminated water when the remediation device is placed in the sample of contaminated water. The device may be formed into an elongated boom that is configured to float on or partially-submerge in water. Alternatively, the device may be formed of a pad or blanket that may be entirely submerged in water during use.
Garbage Collection Apparatus
Garbage collection apparatus for the collection of plastic from a surface of a waterbody with a waterflow. The garbage collection apparatus comprises a base and a horizontal beam mounted pivotably around a vertical axis on the base. Said horizontal beam is mounted displaceably in vertical direction on the base, where said horizontal beam on an underside comprises a collection device for collecting plastic floating on the surface of the waterbody. The collection device extends vertically away from the horizontal beam and extends horizontally in a direction opposite the direction of the water flow in the waterbody, which collection device comprises one of either bars or mesh, where said garbage collection apparatus comprises a first actuator for displacing the horizontal beam in or into vertical direction and where said collection device is connected rotatably to the horizontal beam and where the rotation axis of the collection device relative to the beam is parallel to a main axis of the horizontal beam and where the garbage collection apparatus comprises a controller. Method for removing plastic from the surface of a waterbody with a water flow, with a garbage collection apparatus.
INTEGRATED MARINE BARRIER
A submergible marine barrier protecting marine installations in a protected zone against intrusion and providing a containment barrier against spread of floating spills or bodies. The body of the barrier is supported above water by a main body thus preventing intrusion and containing floating spillage. A weight in main body keeps the barrier upright, and a rigid floatation chamber in the main body keeps it afloat when full of air. A skimming pipe collects floating pollution. Flooding the floatation chambers causes the barrier to submerge allowing access to the protected zone and protecting the barrier from storms. Body, main body, and floatation chambers are made of extruded material with flotation properties (e.g. plastic pipes). Floatation chambers are connected by air hoses and have air venting tubes at their bottom. Sensors detect approaching intruders and pollution, while spikes, barbed-wire and diver-net or any known barrier are used to stop them.
High density fluid recovery of sunken material
A method for recovering a sunken material from a body of water having a water layer and a sediment layer, the sunken material present at a water-sediment interface is presented, comprising using an impermeable hollow column and a high density fluid to float the sunken material to the top of the column for readily removal of the floated sunken material using surface material removing equipment.
Buoyant containment and/or filtration
Embodiments disclosed here include a containment system and methods of containment which may include a segmented buoyant rim. Certain embodiments also include an inflatable rim with at least one inflation/deflation valve in the rim segments and ballast in the rim segments. Additionally, certain embodiments include material connected to the rim segments, to enclose a void created in the rim and to hang below the buoyant rim.
CONTAINMENT UNIT AND METHOD OF USING SAME
The present invention generally relates to containment and control of an oil spill caused by a damaged or broken riser in deep water. More specifically, the present invention relates to a reusable unit that will contain oil spills to a specific location and will also allow oil to be harvested as it flows to the top of the unit while minimizing or even eliminating any environmental clean-up impact or cost. The unit of the present invention is dropped over a damaged or broken riser in a closed position, the unit is released and stabilized in sections until the surface is reached and the containment unit is completely erected.
