Earthen dam structure

The present disclosure discloses an earthen dam structure including a core wall that includes a homogeneous mixture of clay, sand, powdered tire rubber and Portland cement. Additionally, the core wall contains the powdered tire rubber in an amount sufficient to increase a modulus of elasticity of the core wall to over 10 MPa while keeping a hydraulic conductivity of the core wall under 100 feet/year. The earthen dam structure further includes an upstream embankment portion and a downstream embankment portion, each positioned adjacent to the core wall, and a spillway configured to prevent water from overtopping a crest of the core wall.

Soil densification system and method

A soil densification system and method is disclosed. The presently disclosed soil densification system includes an air delivery probe or pipe that can be driven or otherwise installed into a soil mass. An inlet of the air delivery probe is supplied by an air compressor and an air storage tank, which are used for the rapid delivery of air impulses or bursts into the air delivery probe, whereas the air impulses or bursts are expelled out of an outlet of the air delivery probe and into the soil mass. The method of using the presently disclosed soil densification system includes the steps of inserting the end of the air delivery probe into the soil mass to any desired depth and then releasing an impulse or burst of air into the soil mass, thereby forming a densified region in the soil mass via the forces of the air impulse.

The invention provides a seal for placement between a washer plate of a rock bolt and a rock face, wherein the washer plate has an outer edge at a perimeter thereof and wherein the rock bolt has a longitudinal axis, wherein the seal comprises a body made of a spongy material, wherein the body is planar and has an outer dimension that matches that or that is larger than that of outer edge of the washer plate and an inner dimension that has a void towards the center of the inner dimension through-which the longitudinal axis of the rock bolt can pass. The seal is for preventing the leakage of cementing grout (that is used in securing the rock bolt in a bore hole in a mass of rock below a rock face) between the washer plate and the rock face.
