Dissolvable connector for downhole application
A dissolvable connector allows a wireline or similar conveyance to be detached from a downhole tool or device based on conditions in a downhole environment instead of an external action, such as application of tension or an electrical pulse. The dissolvable connector can be strategically positioned to allow retrieval of expensive tools and equipment that are located above the connector. A protective sheath may be provided around the dissolvable connector that opens or unsheathes based on conditions in the downhole environment (e.g., pressure, temperature), a telemetry signal (e.g., from the surface or from a tool string), or tension, to provide greater control over the timing of the release of the dissolvable connector. Such a dissolvable connector allows the device to be detached from the conveyance without the need for wire-cutting operations or weak-point breaking operations.
Downhole electric switch
Systems and methods include a system for controlling a downhole multi-circuit switch using a downhole actuator mechanism. A command is sent, by a surface controller coupled to downhole electrically-powered equipment in a wellbore of a well, to change electrical power flow in a multi-circuit switch to a specified position of multiple positions. A connection between the surface controller and the downhole electrically-powered equipment includes at least two separate input electrical connections for supplying electrical power to the downhole electrically-powered equipment. The command is received by a downhole actuator mechanism from the surface controller. The command indicates to switch from a first electrical connection of the at least two separate input electrical connections to a second electrical connection of the at least two separate input electrical connections. The multi-circuit switch is switched by the downhole actuator mechanism based on the command to change a power source of the downhole electrically-powered equipment, including isolating a first input electrical connection.
Orienting sub
An orienting sub including a hub retainer, a gun sleeve, a locking sleeve, and an electric conductor assembly. In several embodiments, the orienting sub couples a first perforating gun to a second perforating gun. The first perforating gun, the second, perforating gun, and the orienting sub may together form a well perforating system for perforating a wellbore that traverses a subterranean oil and gas formation.
Piezoelectric and magnetostrictive energy harvesting with pipe-in-pipe structure
An apparatus includes an outer structure body having an inner surface defining a cavity and an inner structure body rotatably supported within the cavity. The inner structure body has an outer surface in opposing relation to the inner surface and a central bore. Movable elements are positioned along the inner surface and movably coupled to the outer structure body. Ball elements are positioned along the outer surface and coupled to the inner structure body for movement with the inner structure body. The ball elements releasably contact the movable elements and impart motion to the movable elements in response to relative motion between the inner structure body and the outer structure body. Energy harvesters are positioned to generate electrical charges based on piezoelectric effect or magnetostrictive effect when motion is imparted to the movable elements by the ball elements.
WIRED PIPE COUPLER CONNECTOR
A connector for use in connecting a communication element to a transmission line in a wired pipe segment includes a first female end adapted to surround and make electrical contact with a coupler connection that extends away from a communication element of the coupler; a second female end adapted to receive an inner conductor of a coaxial cable; and an inner connection element formed on an inner surface of the connector adapted to electrically connect the coupler connection and the inner conductor, the inner connection element formed such that it does not completely surround at least one of the inner conductor and the coupler connection.
Data Transmission In Drilling Operation Environments
Apparatus, systems, and methods may operate to transmit a data signal along a transmission line extending lengthwise along a drill string, the transmission line comprising an outer conductive path provided by a tubular wall of a drill pipe that extends along the drill string; and an internal conductive path extending along an interior passage that is bounded by a radially inner cylindrical surface of the drill pipe and along which drilling fluid is conveyed, the inner conductive path being substantially insulated from the outer conductive path. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are described.
Connection system for a marine drilling riser
The present invention concerns a connection system 1 for a marine drilling riser 10 having one or more auxiliary lines 20, the connection system comprising: a moveable coupling member 30 having at least one first connector and at least one second connector coupled to the at least one first connector, wherein the at least one second connector is adapted for engaging with at least one connector of an auxiliary line of the marine drilling riser The connection system further comprising a control line support 18 for fixing at or adjacent an outer surface of the marine drilling riser; a control line supported by the control line support and for attachment to the moveable coupling member; and a tailing line for attachment to the moveable coupling member.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DATA-TRANSFER VIA A DRILL PIPE
A drill-pipe communication assembly includes a first drill pipe segment. A conductor extends at least partially along a length of the first drill pipe segment. An antenna is electrically coupled to the first drill pipe segment. The antenna facilitates wireless transmission of signals from the first drill pipe segment to an adjacent second drill pipe segment.
Bulkhead
A bulkhead may include a fixed body having an exterior fixed body surface, a first cover having a first large region and a first small region, a second cover having a second large region and a second small region, a seal element, a first electrical contact, and a second electrical contact. The exterior fixed body surface may be perpendicular to a radius of the fixed body. The seal element may contact the exterior fixed body surface in a gap provided between the first cover and the second cover. The first electrical contact may extend through the first small region of the first cover. The second electrical contact may extend through the second small region of the second cover.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FOR OIL OPERATIONS
An electrical connector is provided that includes a first conductor for receiving electrical power. A first seal is coupled to the first conductor for protecting the first conductor. An insulating body is coupled to the first conductor, and includes an electrical terminal that establishes electrical connections between the first conductor and a plurality of electrical terminal pins. A downhole cable is coupled to a first electrical terminal pin of the plurality of electrical terminal pins. The first electrical terminal pin establishes an electrical connection between the electrical terminal and the downhole cable to provide the electric power to the downhole cable. A second seal is coupled to the downhole cable for protecting the electrical connection between the electrical terminal and the downhole cable.
