Further the system for making or breaking the riser includes a control system. The control system includes a robot controller in communication with the one or more robotic arms and configured to control the one or more robotic arms. The system for making or breaking the riser is configured to analyze the image to determine the location and orientation of the object and transmit the location and orientation of the object to the robot controller.
Methods and apparatus for pre-torque detection in a threaded connection
A wrench assembly comprises an upper clamp assembly adapted to grip a first tubular, a lower clamp assembly coupled to the upper clamp assembly, the lower clamp assembly adapted to grip a second tubular, wherein the upper clamp assembly includes a plurality of torqueing cylinders coupled thereto, and a torque detection circuit in fluid communication with the torqueing cylinders, wherein the torque detection circuit is configured to apply a rotational force to the upper clamp assembly for a predetermined period of time prior to applying a target torque value to complete a threaded connection.
VENTURI ACTIVATED DOWNHOLE TORQUE LIMITER
Provided, in one aspect, is a downhole torque limiter, comprising a tubular housing; a pipe positioned within the tubular housing, the pipe transitioning from a larger inside diameter (ID.sub.L) to a smaller inside diameter (ID.sub.S), thereby forming a venturi profile having a first pressure zone (Z.sub.1) and a second pressure zone (Z.sub.2); a tubular valve plate radially positioned between the tubular housing and the pipe and rotationally fixed with the pipe; a lower sub rotationally fixed relative to the tubular housing and rotationally coupled to the tubular valve plate via a clutch mechanism; and a valve assembly positioned within a longitudinal opening extending along at least a portion of a sidewall of the tubular valve plate, the valve assembly configured to be activated by a pressure drop created by fluid flowing through the venturi profile.
Sensor on clamp device
A sensor-on-clamp device for use in a drilling system, the clamp being a tool joint clamp and houses one or more sensors mounted to the tool joint clamp, a power source and sensor data transmitting means. One or more sensors for use in a drilling system, said sensors being powerable by a single commercially available, replaceable battery.
Stall Control System for Raise Drills and Raise Boring Machines
A stall control system for a raise boring machine is provided. In one implementation, the stall control system includes one or more hydraulic control valves connected to thrust cylinders of the raise boring machine to vent pressurize oil from a cap end of the thrust cylinders back to an oil tank or to a rod end of the thrust cylinders. In another implementation, the stall control system includes one or more hydraulic control valves connected to thrust cylinders of the raise boring machine to inject pressurized oil into a rod end of the thrust cylinders to increase pressure on the rod end of the thrust cylinders.
Torque-dependent oscillation of a dual-pipe inner section
A method for building a dual-member drill string comprising an inner drill string and an outer drill string. Inner pipe sections are connected using non-threaded connections, while outer pipe sections are connected using threaded connections. A new inner pipe section is rotated in a first direction until the inner pipe section applies torque to the existing inner pipe string. If the magnitude of the torque applied to the inner pipe string exceeds a pre-determined threshold value, the inner pipe section is automatically rotated in an opposite second direction. The inner pipe section rotates between opposite directions, once torque is sensed in each direction, until the inner pipe section is coupled to the inner pipe string.
Floor wrench for a drilling rig
A wrench for making up or breaking up a pipe joint is provided. The wrench comprises a tong assembly having an upper tong and a lower tong. The upper tong has a first upper tong half pivotably connected to a second upper tong half at their first ends. The lower tong has a first lower tong half pivotably connected to a second lower tong half at their first ends. A central bearing operatively couples the upper tong and the lower tong to allow the upper tong to rotate relative to the lower tong or vice versa. The tong assembly has a ram assembly for pushing or pulling the upper tong at a tangential location thereof and the ram assembly is retracted or extended to move the tong assembly between an open position, a closed position, and a rotated closed position where the upper tong is rotated relative to the lower tong.
HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SYSTEM WITH IMPROVED SYSTEM FOR LIMITING TORQUE
A method of controlling a horizontal directional drill having a rotary drive system. The rotary drive system includes a variable displacement pump providing pressurized fluid to a motor, a displacement control that adjusts motor displacement, a torque limiter valve that opens at a torque limit to provide pressurized fluid to the displacement control to allow the system to limit torque, and cross-port relief valves that open at a cross-port relief pressure to limit pressure applied across a motor inlet and a motor outlet. The method includes adjusting the torque limiter pressure to vary the maximum torque applied to a drill string based on operating parameters of the horizontal direction drill, and adjusting the cross-port relief pressure to be higher than the torque limiter pressure each time that the torque limiter pressure is adjusted.
ROBOTIC SYSTEM FOR MAKING OR BREAKING A RISER

The robotic system includes one or more robotic arms configured to be disposed on a spider deck, and one or more riser-connection manipulation tools each having a camera and being configured to manipulate a riser connection, the camera being configured to capture an image of an object, wherein each robotic arm is configured to couple to one riser-connection manipulation tool.
