Single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore
A single use setting tool and associated method for actuating a tool in a wellbore may include an inner piston having a piston proximal end, a piston distal end, and a piston annular wall that defines a piston cavity. The setting tool may include a gas-generating power charge positioned within the piston cavity. The power charge may extend along a longitudinal axis from a proximal end to a distal end and have at least two different widths along its length. The power charge may further include a tapered portion. The setting tool may further include a piston extension connected to the piston distal end. The inner piston may further include a shear element groove circumferentially extending in an outer surface of the inner piston, for receiving a shear element.
THERMITE METHOD OF ABANDONING A WELL
A well cutting tool, comprising a housing including a chamber, the housing having at least one nozzle, the chamber being loaded with thermite, and a gas-generating additive an ignitor such that when the ignitor is actuated to ignite the thermite, the gas-generating additive is caused to create an increase in pressure which discharges energised molten thermite from the chamber and out of the housing through the at least one nozzle.
Service Tool String with Perforating Gun Assembly Positioning Tool
A downhole tool position adjustment assembly for locating a tool downhole comprising a mandrel coupled to a housing via an extend-retract mechanism. A controller communicatively connected to the extend-retract mechanism, wherein an application executing within the controller, is configured to control the extend-retract mechanism. A communication system, communicatively coupled to the controller, is configured to receive a command signal from an operator at a surface location. The extend-retract mechanism moves the mandrel relative to the housing in response to a control signal received from the controller in response to the command signal received by the communication system.
Multiple system ports using a time delay valve
A multi-functional well completion apparatus and method of operation thereof that offers the ability, in a single trip and with limited running tool manipulation, to perform downhole completion operations, such as gravel pack operations or sand control frac or other fluid stimulation operations is described. The well completion tool has multiple functions or operational positions by using a self-closing time delay valve without the need of service tools, thereby saving rig time, reducing operating costs and operational risks associated with tripping service tools into and out of a wellbore.
CEMENT PLUG AND BRIDGE PLUG ASSEMBLY AND METHOD
A plug assembly for a cementing operation in a well includes a bottom wiper plug configured to land in or near the toe of a well and receive a cement slurry therethrough, a top wiper plug releasably coupled to the bottom wiper plug and configured to land on the bottom wiper plug after the cement slurry is received through the bottom wiper plug, a bridge plug coupled to the top wiper plug and configured to move toward the bottom wiper plug with the top wiper plug after the bottom wiper plug is landed in or near the toe of the well, and a sensor sub coupled to the bridge plug and configured to detect a gate in the well.
METHODS TO MONITOR A METALLIC SEALANT DEPLOYED IN A WELLBORE, METHODS TO MONITOR FLUID DISPLACEMENT, AND DOWNHOLE METALLIC SEALANT MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS
The disclosed embodiments include methods to monitor expansion of a metallic sealant deployed in a wellbore, methods to monitor downhole fluid displacement, and downhole metallic sealant measurement systems. The method to monitor expansion of a downhole metallic sealant includes deploying a metallic sealant deployed along a section of a wellbore. The method also includes exposing the metallic sealant to a reacting fluid to initiate a galvanic reaction. The method further includes measuring a change in temperature caused by the galvanic reaction. The method further includes determining an amount of expansion of the metallic sealant based on the change in the temperature.
SINGLE USE SETTING TOOL FOR ACTUATING A TOOL IN A WELLBORE
A single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore may include an outer sleeve and an inner piston received within a central bore of the outer sleeve. The inner piston may define one or more elongate bores therethrough that are in fluid communication with a cavity of the inner piston and extend axially through a distal end portion of the inner piston. The distal end portion of the inner piston may abut a shoulder of the outer sleeve, for example at a distal end face of the inner piston.
Single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore
A single use setting tool and associated method for actuating a tool in a wellbore may include an inner piston with an annular wall defining a piston cavity. A portion of the inner piston including the piston cavity may be positioned within a central bore of an outer sleeve, and the inner piston and the outer sleeve may be slidable relative to one another. A portion of the inner piston may extend beyond an end of the outer sleeve and have a shock absorbing wedge positioned thereon, and the end of the outer sleeve may have a cutout for receiving the shock absorbing wedge. A bi-directional gas-generating power charge may be positioned in the piston cavity and include a power charge having a booster positioned in an indentation adjacent each of a first end and a second end of the power charge.
Downhole sealing apparatuses and related downhole assemblies and methods
A downhole sealing apparatus comprises a propellant section and a sealing element section adjacent the propellant section. The propellant section comprises an outer housing, at least one propellant structure within the outer housing, and at least one initiator device adjacent the at least one propellant structure. The sealing element section is configured to isolate a region of a borehole in a subterranean formation responsive to pressure of gases produced through combustion of at least one propellant of the at least one propellant structure of the propellant section. A downhole assembly and a method of isolating portions of a borehole in a subterranean formation are also disclosed.
