The invention relates to a pick, in particular a round-shank pick, comprising a pick head and a pick shank, wherein the pick head consists of at least a base part and a cutting element, which is connected to the base part and is composed of a hard material, in particular hard metal, wherein the base part has a wear-resistant layer on the outer surface thereof at the connection to the cutting element, which wear-resistant layer covers at least one segment of the outer surface of the base part facing the cutting element and wherein an end face of the wear-resistant layer facing the cutting element is covered by the cutting element. According to the invention, the base part has an axially oriented cut-out for receiving a fastening segment of the cutting element, the base part has a counter surface facing the cutting element and extending around the cut-out, and the counter surface and the end face of the wear-resistant layer form a continuous flat surface. The invention further relates to two methods for producing such a pick. The pick formed in such a way has low abrasive wear.

Between about sixty percent (60%) and about ninety percent (90%) of the cutting insert (18) is received in the socket (20) of the bolster (46), thereby reducing forces and stresses transmitted to the cutting tool (10) during a machining operation.

A pick assembly comprising a holder body, a strike body, a base body attachable to a drive mechanism, and an interference assembly comprising at least one interference member. The holder body comprises a head portion and a shaft depending from the head portion. The strike body comprises a super-hard strike tip. The head portion and the strike body are cooperatively configured such that the strike body can be attached to the head portion, the strike tip being exposed for striking a body to be degraded when in use. The base body comprises a base bore. The base bore, shaft and interference assembly are cooperatively configured such that the shaft can be secured within the base bore, the interference member disposed between the shaft and the bore. Frictional interference between the shaft, interference assembly and base bore is sufficient to prevent rotation of the shaft within the base bore in use.

Furthermore, a fastening device is provided, which is designed in such a way that it pulls the milling chisel along its longitudinal axis and in the direction away from the chisel tip into the shaft receptacle, the shaft receptacle of the chisel holder being designed complementary to the chisel shaft of the milling chisel in such a way that the tapering section, when braced by the fastening device, bears against the chisel holder in the shaft receptacle in a frictionally locking manner shaft receptacle. The chisel holder also comprises a base holder and a quick-change chisel holder, the base holder comprising a holder receptacle for receiving the quick-change chisel holder, and the quick-change chisel holder comprising the shaft receptacle, and the fastening device being designed in such a way that it pulls both the milling chisel along its longitudinal axis and in the direction away from the chisel tip into the shaft receptacle as well as the quick-change chisel holder into the holder receptacle in the base holder.
