Cam Phase Actuator Control Systems and Methods
The systems and methods described herein provide an approach for cam phase angle control where an axial or rotational position of an actuator of a cam phaser has a direct relationship to the phase angle of the cam shaft, allowing for accurate cam phasing without the need for cam shaft or crank shaft position sensors. Providing phase angle adjustability without the need for crank shaft or cam shaft position sensors enables control of phase angle solely by sensing the axial or rotational position of the actuator of the cam phaser.
DETERMINING A POSITION OF A MOVABLE ELEMENT OF A LINEAR ACTUATOR WHICH IS INTENDED FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE
A method for determining a position of a movable element of a linear actuator of a motor vehicle includes supplying a current to a coil of the linear actuator so as to move and/or hold the movable element by a magnetic field of the coil generated by the supplied current; modulating the current supplied to the coil with an electrical alternating variable having a predetermined frequency; determining an impedance or an admittance of the coil at the predetermined frequency by measuring a further variable at the predetermined frequency; and determining the position of the movable element as a function of the determined impedance or admittance.
Rotary valves
A rotary valve includes a valve shaft coupled to a rotary valve element. The valve shaft defines an axis and is rotatable thereabout. The valve further comprises a rotary position sensor and a coupling rotationally coupling the valve shaft and the sensor. A wrenching arm is rotationally coupled to the valve shaft, and extends radially outwardly of the axis for attachment of a wrenching tool thereto. The coupling is axially between the rotary position sensor and the wrenching arm.
VARIABLE TRAVEL VALVE APPARATUS FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An apparatus includes a valve and an actuator. The valve has a portion movably disposed within a valve pocket defined by a cylinder head of an engine. The valve is configured to move relative to the cylinder head a distance between a closed position and an opened position. The portion of the valve defines a flow opening that is in fluid communication with a cylinder of an engine when the valve is in the opened position. The actuator is configured to selectively vary the distance between the closed position and the opened position.
Actuator with open-loop control direct drive
Travel of a brushless rotary actuator is limited by two stops, including a wound stator and a magnetic cylindrical rotor rigidly attached to a shaft having a first end rigidly attached to a control member. A second end of the shaft is rigidly attached to a travel limiting part acting as stops, and the travel limiting part has bending, resilient beam shapes. The actuator is electrically controlled in an open-loop. A control system controls a lift value of valves of an internal combustion engine by a lever driven by such an actuator.
