A lubrication system is provided for a turbine engine. This lubrication system includes a lubricant source, a pump, a first turbine engine component, a bypass circuit and a second turbine engine component. The lubricant source includes a source outlet. The pump includes a pump inlet and a pump outlet. The pump inlet is fluidly coupled with the source outlet. The first turbine engine component includes a first volume. The first volume is fluidly coupled with the pump outlet. The bypass circuit includes a bypass inlet and a bypass outlet. The bypass inlet is fluidly coupled with the pump outlet upstream of the first volume. The bypass outlet is fluidly coupled with the pump inlet downstream of the source outlet. The second turbine engine component includes a second volume. The second volume is fluidly coupled with the pump inlet downstream of the bypass outlet.

Bi-directional auxiliary lubrication system

A bi-directional auxiliary lubrication system which allows lubricant to be supplied to moving engine components after a loss of lubricant pressure from a main lubricant tank is disclosed. In a gas turbine engine, the lubrication system may siphon compressed air from a compressor to draw lubricant from a reserve lubricant tank and deliver that lubricant to the engine components. The same conduits used by the lubrication during normal operations are utilized in an opposite direction to provide the flow of lubricant from the reserve lubricant tank during such auxiliary or low-lubricant-pressure operations.

Methods for evaluating the lubrication of an apparatus which can be lubricated by means of a lubricant circuit

A method for evaluating the lubrication of friction components of an apparatus which can be lubricated by means of a lubricant circuit. A lubricant pump of the lubricant circuit is drivable by a drive engine. A pressure ascertainment unit continuously ascertains the lubricant pressure at at least one defined region of the lubricant circuit during an engine start procedure. A travel ascertainment unit is provided, by means of which at multiple pressure points in time, at each of which the lubricant pressure ascertained exceeds a defined pressure limiting value (p.sub.1, p.sub.2, p.sub.3), the relative travel between the friction components since the beginning of the engine start procedure is ascertained or estimated, and an analysis unit, by means of which an evaluation value, is ascertained from the total of the relative travel values (.sub.1, .sub.2, .sub.3) ascertained at the pressure points in time.
