The pump suction stages and the pump pressure stage are arranged spaced apart from one another in a pump housing PG and have a common drive shaft. The pump suction stages are formed by a first assembly of intermeshing external gearwheels that lie in a first plane, and the pump pressure stage is formed by a second assembly of intermeshing external gearwheels that lie in a second plane. A first delivery volume flow can be drawn in from a first region of a dry sump by a first pump suction stage, and a second delivery volume flow can be drawn in from a second region of the dry sump by a second pump suction stage. The two delivery volume flows intermix in the pump housing before they reach an oil tank.

An engine assembly includes an oil pan including an oil pan body defining a cavity. The oil pan body includes a dividing wall separating the cavity into a first compartment and a second compartment. The dividing wall defines a compartment opening extending therethrough, and the compartment opening fluidly interconnects the first compartment and the second compartment. The engine assembly also includes an oil pump at least partially disposed inside the first compartment of the oil pan. The oil pump includes a pump pickup conduit in fluid communication with the first compartment. The engine assembly additionally includes a temperature sensor disposed inside the pump pickup conduit of the oil pump. The temperature sensor can measure the temperature of oil flowing into the oil pump. In other words, the temperature sensor can sense the temperature of the oil pumped in the engine.

The pump may include a drive gear having a plurality of drive gear teeth extending radially outward that may be intermeshed with the idler gear teeth during use. The drive gear may be formed with a recess at on axial end thereof, and the axial position of the recess may correspond to the axial position of the idler gear cavity. In one embodiment of a pump, each idler gear tooth may be formed with an identical idler gear cavity at the same relative position on each idler gear tooth.

The primary filter and the secondary filter are mounted on a bottom surface of the power unit case and covered from below by the oil pan.
