METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING AN EXHAUST COMPONENT IN AN EXHAUST PASSAGE FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF A VEHICLE
A method for diagnosing an exhaust component in an exhaust passage for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. In the method, operating parameters of the internal combustion engine are monitored and recorded by a control unit while the internal combustion engine is running. If a predefined emission threshold for the exhaust component for compliance with emissions is found to have been exceeded, the current operating parameters of the internal combustion engine are stored in a control unit. The operating state of the internal combustion engine when the predefined emission threshold is exceeded is reproduced on a vehicle test bench using the stored operating parameters. The diagnosis of the exhaust component is carried out based on a comparison between the current measured value from the exhaust component and the current measured value from an emission measuring device and/or the predefined emission threshold.
METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING DEGRADATION OF CATALYST AND CATALYST DEGRADATION DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
Provided is a method for accurately diagnosing a degree of degradation of an oxidation catalyst. A target gas detecting element configured to output an electromotive force corresponding to a concentration of a target gas is provided downstream of a catalyst in an exhaust path of an internal combustion engine. A sum of change amounts of an electromotive force in a time-variable profile thereof after the introduction of a gas atmosphere for diagnosis into the catalyst is set as a diagnosis index value. The gas atmosphere has been intentionally created in the engine and includes a target gas having a concentration higher than the concentration of a target gas during a steady operation state of the engine. The index value is then compared with a threshold corresponding to the temperature of the catalyst to diagnosis whether degradation exceeding an acceptable degree has occurred in the catalyst.

Provided is a method for accurately diagnosing a degree of degradation of an oxidation catalyst. A target gas detecting element configured to output an electromotive force corresponding to a concentration of a target gas is provided downstream of a catalyst in an exhaust path of an internal combustion engine. A maximum change amount of an electromotive force after the introduction of a gas atmosphere for diagnosis into the catalyst is set as a diagnosis index value. The gas atmosphere has been intentionally created in the engine and includes a target gas having a concentration higher than the concentration of a target gas in a steady operation state of the engine. The index value is then compared with a threshold corresponding to the temperature of the catalyst to diagnosis whether degradation exceeding an acceptable degree has occurred in the catalyst.
Real-Time Fluid Species Mass Flowmeter
A chemical species mass flow meter measurement system for use in fluid mixture streams includes a chemical species concentration detection analyzer physically located within a fluid volume flow rate sensing probe along with bulk temperature and pressure sensing devices for relating to standard conditions. The system uses concentration detection analyzers specifically suited to the intended application. Applications include the measurement of exhaust mass emissions from vehicles, the fuel economy of vehicles, as well as the measurement of the mass flow rate of chemical species of interest in general industrial processes.
Exhaust gas purifying system
An exhaust gas purifying system includes: a NOx trapping agent (2) which adsorbs nitrogen oxide when an excess air ratio of exhaust gas is more than 1, and releases nitrogen oxide when the excess air ratio is 1 or less; a NOx purifying catalyst (13) which reduces nitrogen oxide to nitrogen; and an oxygen concentration controller which controls oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas. When the excess air ratio of the exhaust gas is more than 1, nitrogen oxide is adsorbed to the NOx trapping agent (2). When the excess air ratio of the exhaust gas is 1 or less, the oxygen concentration controller controls the oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas at an inlet of the NOx purifying catalyst between 0.8 and 1.5% by volume, so that the NOx purifying catalyst reduces nitrogen oxide released from the NOx trapping agent.
Internal combustion engine systems including criteria pollutant mitigation
A method for operating an internal combustion engine includes combusting a fuel and air mixture within a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, thereby forming an exhaust gas, passing the exhaust gas out of the combustion chamber, performing a startup procedure, the startup procedure including passing the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber to a storage unit, capturing criteria pollutants of the exhaust gas with the storage unit, passing the exhaust gas from the storage unit to an aftertreatment system, heating the aftertreatment system to an activation temperature with the exhaust gas from the storage unit, and subsequent to heating the aftertreatment system to the activation temperature, performing a secondary procedure, the secondary procedure including passing the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber to the aftertreatment system thereby forming a treated exhaust gas, and passing the treated exhaust gas to the storage unit.

Catalyst deterioration diagnosis device and catalyst deterioration diagnosis method
A catalyst deterioration diagnosis device includes: a unit configured to obtain a temperature of a catalyst; a unit configured to obtain a sensor output from a gas sensor disposed between the catalyst and an exhaust port; and a unit configured to determine the catalyst to be faulty when the temperature of the catalyst obtained when the sensor output becomes a preset evaluative output is equal to or higher than an evaluative catalyst temperature.
CATALYST DETERIORATION DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM AND CATALYST DETERIORATION DIAGNOSIS METHOD
A system of diagnosing a deterioration of a catalyst, which includes a precious metal component and a ceramic part and purifies an exhaust gas emitted from an engine, includes: a diagnosis means comparing a diagnosis object value corresponding to an output from an NOx sensor provided on a downstream side with respect to the catalyst and a predetermined diagnosis threshold value stored in a storage means, thereby diagnosing a degree of deterioration of the catalyst, wherein the diagnosis threshold value is previously determined based on a correlationship between the diagnosis object value and a total weight value of NOx and THC in the exhaust gas through the catalyst in a state where the vehicle travels under a constant threshold value setting condition, and the diagnosis means diagnoses that a deterioration occurs in the precious metal component when the diagnosis object value exceeds the diagnosis threshold value.
