Split cycle internal combustion engine
A split cycle internal combustion engine apparatus includes a combustion cylinder accommodating a combustion piston and a compression cylinder accommodating a compression piston. The apparatus is arranged to provide compressed fluid to the combustion cylinder. The compression cylinder is coupled to a first liquid coolant reservoir and a second liquid coolant reservoir. A controller is arranged to receive an indication of at least one parameter associated with the engine, and control delivery of at least one of the first liquid coolant from the first liquid coolant reservoir and the second liquid coolant from the second liquid coolant reservoir to the compression cylinder based on the indication of the at least one parameter such that the at least one liquid coolant vaporises into a gaseous phase during a compression stroke.
Method for manufacturing and utilizing high-density air
Provided is a method for enabling high-density air to be efficiently manufactured without unnecessarily increasing the pressure and temperature. A method for manufacturing high-density air according to the present invention includes: mixing raw air A with fine water particles W to generate water-containing air A1 having a lower pressure than the raw air A; supplementing the water-containing air A1 with a differential pressure between the pressure of the raw air A and the pressure of the water-containing air A1; and consequently promoting vaporization of the fine water particles W in the water-containing air A1 and reducing the volume of the water-containing air A1 to manufacture high-density air A2. The density of air can be efficiently increased with this method.
Split Cycle Engine
A split cycle internal combustion engine comprising a compression cylinder accommodating a compression piston; a combustion cylinder accommodating a combustion piston; a crossover passage between the compression cylinder and the combustion cylinder arranged to provide working fluid to the combustion cylinder; a controller arranged to determine a peak temperature of combustion in the combustion cylinder based on a received indication of a peak temperature of combustion in the combustion cylinder; and a coolant system arranged to regulate a temperature of the working fluid supplied to the combustion cylinder; wherein, in response to determining that the peak temperature of combustion exceeds a selected threshold, the controller is configured to control the coolant system to regulate the temperature of the working fluid supplied to the combustion cylinder so that a peak temperature of combustion in the combustion cylinder is less than the selected threshold.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An internal combustion engine includes, in addition to an LPL-EGR system, two water vapor separation film modules for fresh air and for EGR gas. One module 34 is connected to a pressure reducing pump 40 through a suction passage 38. Other module 36 is connected to a pressure reducing pump 44 through a suction passage 42. A condenser 54 that condenses water vapor that flows through the suction passage 38 is provided in the suction passage 38. A water tank 56 that temporarily accumulates condensed water that is discharged from the condenser 54 is provided on a downstream side relative to the condenser 54. The water tank 56 is connected to injectors 60 that inject water from the water tank 56 into intake ports of respective cylinders or into respective cylinders.
COOLING ARRANGEMENT FOR COOLING CHARGE AIR OF A SUPERCHARGED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A cooling arrangement for cooling charge air of a supercharged internal combustion engine. In a charge-air line that leads to the internal combustion engine, there are provided a compressor arrangement, which has at least one compressor stage, and an expansion arrangement, which has at least one expansion stage for lowering the pressure level and thus for cooling the charge air. A cooling device is provided between the compressor arrangement and the expansion arrangement. The at least one compressor stage and the at least one expansion stage are connected in series and are respectively connected in terms of drive to an electric motor. The compressor arrangement has at least two compressor stages connected in parallel.
STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENT IN A LOW-TEMPERATURE TURBOCOMPRESSOR FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A low-temperature turbocompressor structural arrangement for an internal combustion engine for using energy that is available but unused during operation to cool the air supplied to the engine by supercharging. The temperature of the air compressed by the compressor is reduced by a cooling system and the air is then conveyed to a further turbine actuated by the intake air flow of the engine. The structural arrangement may be mounted in full or in part, and also each component may be fitted into existing systems.

Internal Combustion Engine with Cooling Assist System for Manifold Intake Temperature Reduction
Methods and systems for reducing the temperature of the charge air provided to a turbocharged internal combustion engine. A supercharger is installed on the air intake path, upstream the turbocharger's compressor. A secondary charge air cooler is installed between the supercharger and the main compressor. This over-compresses the intake air, so that an expansion turbine installed downstream the turbocharger's compressor can cool the charge air and still provide sufficient charge air pressure into the intake manifold.
SUPPLEMENT THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM COOLING USING THERMOELECTRIC COOLING
Systems and methods to increase the recharge rate of a supplemental cooling system are provided. The system may include a primary cooling system configured to cool a thermal load, a supplemental cooling system, and a thermoelectric cooling apparatus. The thermoelectric cooling apparatus may assist the primary cooling system in recharging the supplemental cooling system in response to the supplemental cooling system operating in a recharge state, to the availability of electrical capacity, and to one or more operating parameters of the primary cooling system falling outside a predetermined range, wherein the operating parameter affects a cooling capacity of the primary cooling system.

A cooling arrangement for cooling charge air of a supercharged internal combustion engine. In a charge-air line that leads to the internal combustion engine, there are provided a compressor arrangement, which has at least one compressor stage, and an expansion arrangement, which has at least one expansion stage for lowering the pressure level and thus for cooling the charge air. A cooling device is provided between the compressor arrangement and the expansion arrangement.
