VEHICLE ENGINE SYSTEM PROVIDED WITH A TURBOCHARGER, AND CONTROL METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SUCH ENGINE SYSTEM
An engine system has an internal combustion engine, a turbocharger provided with a compressor and with a turbine; and a supply line, which supplied air to the engine through said compressor; the supply line has a supplementary compression stage, which is distinct from the compressor and is controlled in combination with and adjustment of the turbine, in order to limit the back pressure of the exhaust gases flowing out of the engine; in particular, said compression stage is defined by an ejector.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR STARTING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A device and a method for starting an internal combustion engine, provided with an exhaust turbine turbocharger, an electric motor generator, a power storage unit, an engine rotation starter device, injectors, and a control device that controls the electric motor generator, the engine rotation starter device, and the injectors, wherein when an engine rotation activation start signal is input and the rotational frequency of the exhaust turbine turbocharger reaches an engine rotation-activation-starting rotational frequency, the control device starts driving the engine rotation starter device, and when the engine rotational frequency reaches a fuel-supply-starting rotational frequency, the control device starts driving the injectors, thus improving the starting performance of the internal combustion engine.

ELECTRONIC PUMP/COMPRESSOR FOR AN ENGINE SYSTEM
Systems and apparatuses include a system including an electronic compressor, a bypass intake coupled between an engine system of a generator set and the electronic compressor, a bypass outlet coupled between the electronic compressor and the engine system, and a valve positioned to selectively inhibit flow between the bypass intake and the bypass outlet during a starting operation.
POWER DELIVERY SYSTEM AND METHOD
A power delivery system includes a turbocharger assist device and an inverter. The turbocharger assist device is mechanically connected to a turbocharger that is operably coupled to an engine, and is configured to generate electric current based on rotation of a rotor of the turbocharger. The inverter is electrically connected to the turbocharger assist device via a bus, and is configured to receive the electric current generated by the turbocharger assist device via the bus and supply the electric current to power a load.
COOLANT SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED E-MACHINE CONTROLLER FOR TURBOMACHINE
A fluid compressor device includes a housing and a rotating group supported for rotation within the housing about an axis. The device also includes a compressor stage including a compressor wheel of the rotating group that is supported on a shaft of the rotating group. The device also includes an e-machine stage including an e-machine that is operably coupled to the shaft and that is configured to operate as at least one of a motor and a generator. Additionally, the device includes an integrated controller that extends at least partly over the e-machine stage in a circumferential direction about the axis. The integrated controller includes a coolant core that receives a flow of a coolant therethrough for cooling the integrated controller. The coolant core extends over the e-machine stage in a circumferential direction about the axis.
High performance turbo-hydraulic compressor
Use of the hydraulically driven device in a series configuration with a minimally restrictive turbocharger is defined which will allow a very responsive and powerful boosting system to reach boost levels of 4-5 pressure ratio (PR) to support and enable OEM engine downsizing trends. An electric supercharger is also considered. A hydraulic drive assists to increase the acceleration rate of a turbocharger impeller/turbine shaft assembly and provide a secondary means of driving the compressor impeller at lower engine speeds where exhaust gases alone does not generate adequate shaft speeds to create significant induction boost. The hydraulic circuit includes a dual displacement motor, which provides high torque for acceleration yet converts to a single motor for high-speed operation. When the exhaust driven turbine function allows compressor speeds, beyond which the hydraulic system can contribute, a slip clutch allows disengagement of the hydraulic drive. In an alternative embodiment, the hydraulic drive provides means of forced induction air alone.

ELECTRIC BOOST DEVICE CONTROL FOR TURBOCHARGER
New and/or alternative approaches to performance control in an engine system having a compressor configured to receive torque from each of a turbine placed in an exhaust output of an engine and an electric motor. A control unit for the electric motor, referred to as an ETurbo controller, is provided with each of a speed control signal and a torque control signal from an engine control unit. The ETurbo controller is configured to use the torque control signal and speed control signal to operate the electric motor without causing the compressor to exceed a speed boundary.
HEALTH CONSCIOUS CONTROLLER
New and/or alternative approaches to physical plant performance control that can account for the health of the physical plant. In one example, a control algorithm is enhanced by inclusion of terms related to optimized performance and terms related to physical plant health. In another example, a performance optimized control solution is determined, a maximum allowed deviation is defined, and a final solution for physical plant control is determined taking into account health factors to minimize health impacts within the maximum allowed deviation from optimized performance, using for example a two-stage analysis. Another example uses a two level system with a low level controller and a supervisory controller, in which the supervisory controller observes health impacts of ongoing operations managed by the low level controller, and modifies one or more parameters used by the low level controller.
