Dynamic loads based on fuel type
A system and method for dynamically controlling an aggregate load on a generator is described. Fuel change data for a gaseous fuel for the generator is identified. The fuel change data indicates a change in fuel type for the generator. A controller identifies at least one load portion from the aggregate load associated with the change in fuel type and generates a switch command for a switch coupled to the at least one load in response to the change in fuel type.
System and method of injecting natural gas in liquid form into a diesel engine
The present invention discloses a method of introducing fuel into a diesel engine for combustion within the engine. A natural gas in liquid form is injected into the engine for combustion therein with diesel fuel so as to maintain a natural gas concentration derived from the liquid in the range of greater than 0.6% to 3.0% of air intake by volume of natural gas. Suitable gases include natural gas, methane or substantially methane gas mixtures and substitute natural gas such as propane air mixtures providing a mixture with similar combustion properties to methane/natural gas.
Method and system for knock control
Methods and systems are provided for improving engine knock control by accounting for a drop in charge cooling efficiency of a knock control fluid at higher temperatures. In response to the prediction of an elevated temperature of a knock control fluid at a time of release from a direct injector, a pulse width of the injection is adjusted. Any knock relief deficits are compensated for using alternate engine adjustments, such as boost or spark timing adjustments.
Systems and methods for improving torque response of an engine
Systems and methods for improving engine torque response are presented. In one example, engine idle speed is increased to shorten engine torque response based on engine operating conditions. The methods and systems may be useful for operating an engine that is supplied a gaseous fuel.
Internal combustion engine with injection quantity control
An internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine includes a control device, and at least one injector for liquid fuel. The injector(s) can be controlled by the control device via an actuator control signal. The injector(s) include an injector outlet opening for the liquid fuel which can be closed by a needle. A sensor is also provided for measuring a measurement variable of the injector(s). The sensor is or can be in a signal connection with the control device. An algorithm is stored in the control device, which algorithm calculates a state of the injector(s) based on input variables and an injector model, compares the state calculated via the injector model with a target state, and produces a state signal in accordance therewith. The state signal is characteristic of a change in the state of the injector(s) that occurs during intended use of the injector(s) and/or an unforeseen change in the state of the injector(s). The input variables include at least the actuator control signal and the measurement values of the sensor. A method for operating such an internal combustion engine and an injector is also provided.

The fuel change data indicates a change in fuel type for the generator. A controller identifies at least one load portion from the aggregate load associated with the change in fuel type and generates a switch command for a switch coupled to the at least one load in response to the change in fuel type.
Integrated fuel composition and pressure sensor
Methods and systems are provided for an integrated fuel composition-pressure sensor. In one example, the integrated sensor may include a set of cylindrical capacitors and a set of plate capacitors with a common capacitor element shared between the sets. A composition of fuel may be determined from the set of cylindrical capacitors and a pressure of fuel may be determined from the set of plate capacitors.
Combustion system estimation device and control device
An estimation device applicable to a combustion system having an internal combustion engine includes a mixing acquisition unit, a combustion amount estimation unit, a region estimation unit, and a timing estimation unit. The mixing acquisition unit acquires a mixing ratio of various components contained in fuel used for combustion in the internal combustion engine. The combustion amount estimation unit estimates a combustion amount of fuel caused by a post combustion generated by injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine by post injection, based on the mixing ratio acquired by the mixing acquisition unit. The region estimation unit estimates a combustion region of the post combustion in the combustion chamber based on the mixing ratio. The timing estimation unit estimates an ignition timing at which ignition occurs in the combustion chamber by the post injection based on the mixing ratio.
DUAL FUEL ENGINE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING DUAL FUEL ENGINE SYSTEM
A method for controlling a dual fuel engine system includes estimating a total indicated engine load, where the total indicated engine load is based on a sum of a measured engine power and a power loss estimate. The method further includes determining a total fueling amount based on an engine speed and the total indicated engine load, where the total fueling amount includes a gas fueling amount and a diesel fueling amount. The method also includes controlling the dual fuel engine system using the total fueling amount.
